Whalley’s continuing battle against new housing devel opment will go on, with the parish council fully involved. In his report to the annual
meeting of Whalley Parish Council, re-elected chair man Coun Martin Highton said there had been a further year delay in the adoption of Ribble Valley’s core strat egy and developers contin ued to take advantage of this
n e w
situation. However, this year there had been no major new planning applications for housing developments in the village. Two major schemes had
been permitted on appeal by the planning inspector, one on the site off Mitton Road and also the development in neighbouring Barrow. He said: “I would par ticularly like to thank our
planning chairman, Coun Stephen Barker, for the many hours of preparation prior to these meetings and representing the parish council at the Ribble Valley planning committee and the subsequent appeal hearing. “We have now started the
process of adopting a neigh bourhood plan for Whalley, probably linked to parts of our neighbouring parish
es, Billington and Barrow. • “This will be a major task
with serious cost implica tions, but we do need some thing in place to protect our environment and control the actions of developers in and around Whalley. “I would like to thank Coun
Ivan Kent for his time and effort in preparing for this process,” added Coun Highton. .

allow holidays in term time. Dr Austin added: “I would
recommend that all parents lookatthelatest information on our website and contact the headteacher if you wish to discuss a leave of absence from school for a child. The implication is that we need to have a face-to-face discus sion between parents and the headteacher so that all the issues arising from the holiday request or leave of absence can be discussed.”
