BOLTON-BY- BOWLAND
Fans At the meeting of Friends and Neigh bours, Bolton-by- Bowland, chairman Mrs Catherine Curry welcomed the speaker for the evening, Mr Christopher Boson- net who gave a fas cinating and inter esting talk on “The History of Bolton Hall”, sharing many of the photo graphs of the hall and estate, which has been in his fami ly since 1866. Mr Nick Brigstocke assisted Mr Boson- net by compiling the PowerPoint presentation.
It was an open meet ing, and 150 guests, were welcomed, many who could remember the hall before it had to be pulled down in the 1950's, due to dry rot.
Mr Bosonnet showed many photographs, including the skele tons of a man and horse that used to be on display. The talk encouraged many people to share their memo ries.
Mr Bosonnet and Mr Brigstocke were thanked by Mrs Maggie Morgan for their hard work and an
enjoyable
evening. Next month's talk on April 2nd starting a t 7-30 p.m., is “Girlie Gardening”, given by Garden- makers, all are wel come.
Workshop Author Mr David Webb visited Bolton-by-Bow- land CE Primary School where he enthralled the chil dren with his story telling and writing workshops.
The “Mad Scientist” started his science after school club together with chil dren from Grindle- ton Primary School and themes for the next few weeks are bugs, detective sci ence, earthworks, kitchen chemistry, mad
science
machines, movie effects, walloping weather and the sci ence of toys.
Total performance soccer continues on Friday after school and has been well attended.
Egg hunt Friends of Bolton-by- Bowland School (FOBBS) held an Easter egg hunt and the children had a wonderful time searching round school.
School closes today for Good Friday, Easter Monday and an Inset day on Tuesday, re-opening oh Wednesday.

Gardening The speaker at Bol- land Gardening Club's meeting was Diane Harrison, of Avant Gardens, Leyland. She took a colourful and varied selection of spring plants and used them to plant up several very differ ent baskets, includ ing a novelty pig. Members entered into a lively discus sion with Diane and were able to pur chase plants.
Thanks were given by Mrs Pat Cunning ham. Tea hostesses Mrs Knowles and Mrs Lord were thanked by chair man Mrs M. Mid dleton, who also welcomed three new members.
The next meeting will be on April 9th, when Mrs Ellis, of Lakeside Garden Centre, will give a talk

Manor House Mothers’ Day at the Manor House, Chatburn, was cele brated with all the ladies receiving posies of flowers and visitors galore.

The theme continued on St Patrick’s Day with shamrocks and Leprechauns making an appear ance and Irish cof fee, stew and soda bread was included on the menu. Irish music and a quiz rounded oft the day.

Computer There will be a manipulating digi tal image computer course starting in Chipping Village Hall on Friday mornings from 10 a.m. till noon. Maundy This evening there will be a service of Holy Communion for Maundy Thurs day, in St Ambrose Church, Grindle- ton, a t 8-30 p.m. After the service the altar and sanctuary will be stripped and a vigil kept until 10 p.m.
On Good Friday at 9- 30 a.m. there will be a quiet service of meditation with Holy Communion.

Gift wrapping The meeting of Dun- sop Bridge WI was presided over by president Mrs M. Beattie who wel comed everyone.
She introduced guest speaker Mrs Elaine Burridge whose talk was entitled “Gift ■Wrapping with a Difference”. During the evening she wrapped various parcels with paper, tissue paper, cello phane, crepe paper and fabric. All the parcels were deco rated with items such as string, rib bon, cotton wool, shells and artificial flowers. Thanks were expressed by Mrs Lisa James.

Raffle winner was Mrs James and birthday flowers were presented to Mrs Cowking.
Speaker at the April meeting will be Mrs Evelsm McGeachey on “Life in Uni form”. The compe tition is for a 50s souvenir and tea hostesses will be Mrs M. Cook, Mrs Cowking and Mrs S. Walker.
The church will be decorated for the Easter festival on Saturday morning from 9-30 a.m. onwards. Greenery, flowers and helping hands will be much appreciated.

Parish council The problem of dog fouling was brought to the attention of councillors at the meeting of Hurst Green Parish Coun cil. This menace is worsening and is unpleasant
for
pedestrians and especially children in the village. The problem seems to be particularly bad on Avenue Road and also on the Bailey Field. Dog owners are reminded that dogs are prohibited from Bailey Field as this is a space for children to play.
St John's St John's Church cel ebrates Easter weekend with a variety of fun, reflective and spiri tual activities. Tomorrow, Good Friday Kidzone are meeting at 9-30-11- 30 a.m. for a work shop in the church hall, all young peo ple are welcome.
At 2 p.m. there will be an hour of devo tion in the hall, entitled "Cross Pur poses", followed by hot cross buns.
Bric-a-brac After years of Christ mas and summer fairs St John's has accumulated a vast treasure of games, books and bric-a- brac and has decid ed to reduce, recycle and renew by hav ing a nearly give away sale between 10 a.m. and noon on Saturday, March 29th in the church hall. Come along have a cup of tea or coffee and grab a bargain.

Memorial lunch
The memorial lunch eon held annually in Knowle Green Vil lage Hall was very well-attended with over £800 being raised for village hall funds. The entertainment by local Lancashire folk group. T’other ‘Arf, proved once again to be a popu lar choice. A bench purchased in memo ry of former chair man of the village hall, Mr Dennis Bowyer, has now been placed outside and the present chairman, Mr Andy McLaughlin, made reference to the great contribution Dennis had made to
the life of the hall and the local com munity over many years. A bouquet of flowers was present ed to his widow, Kathleen, at the luncheon.
History group Despite the dreadful weather the meet ing of the History of Warfare group was very well-attended with six new mem bers welcomed. The group heard Mr Donald Richardson give an illustrated talk on the Knights Hospitaller. The next meeting of the group will be on April 18th when the subject will be the Spanish Civil War. Easter festival A Festival of Eggs is to be held in New ton on Easter Mon day beginning at noon.
There will be compe titions for children and adults, and they will display their Easter bon nets, home-made chicla, painted eggs and bunnies in bas kets to be judge at the village hall. There is also a fami ly Easter egg treas ure hunt and egg rolling.
On the village green there will be a giant egg containing live chickens and there will be stalls such as guessing the name of the bunny, weight of the golden goose egg and num ber of eggs in a jar.
Residents have been asked to decorate their doors and gate posts with egg relat ed works of art and sandwiches, drinks and home-made cakes will be avail able in the hall.
I t should be a very happy and colourful event to raise cash for the village.
