Some births were not registered and registrars would try to make sure this did not happen as their income was calculated on the number of certificates issued, however this also led to some fic titious registrations to boost their income. Twenty-five years later, in 1997, they were moved to the Family Record Centre and this year they will be transferred to the National Archives a t Kew. been set up with these records available to view; some are pay to view and others are free. The Lancashire BMD is free to view as are many other county’s records. He then showed the meeting how to

SLAIDBURN SCHOOL 1946,47 or 48

THERE seems to be some confusion as to the date of this picture of pupils at Slaidburn School in either 19IG, 47 or 48. It would appear the pupils are about to do their Maypole danc ing. Unfortunately the person who brought the

photograph in did not leave a name, but did leave a long list of pupils. I hope they are in the right order. Back row, left to right: Brian Townson, Ken

use the www.lancashirebmd.org.uk site and the amount of information it pro vides. However, he said there have been some problems with some of the tran scriptions as they were done in South East Asia and that has led to the wrong spelling and interpretation of the records. He also warned members to beware of scam websites. Mr Foster also told the society that

when research is being carried out people must remember that registration districts change over time. 0 The next meeting of the branch will

be on Tuesday, April 8th, at 7-30 p.m. at Clitheroe Cricket Club when the speaker will be John Mackie and his subject will be Exploring Heraldry.

THE first Relay Reader winner of 2008 is 11-year-old Nyima Murry. Nyima, a pupil at St James’s CE

Primary School in Clitheroe, reviewed Julia Devillers’ book “How My Private Personal Journal Became a Bestseller”. In her review, Nyima wrote

Nyima (11) takes the title of first Relay Reader winner of the new year Nyima writes: “The next thing

about the book’s main character Jamie Barratt - a normal 14-year- old tvith “normal parents” who goes to “a normal school”. Jamie does not enjoy writing in school, espe cially the way her work has to be set out, but what she does enjoy writ ing is her diary.

After borrowing her friend’s lap

top she finds a font that is like writ ing with a gel pen and “can’t resist writing her diary out in it”. Her English teacher reads it out

in front of the whole class before sending it off to one of her publish ing friends.

Jamie knew she was being inter viewed on TV, then reaching num ber one. She goes to Hollywood and the whole world is calling out IS. Everything might seem great, but is it affecting her friendship between Harmony and Lindsay?”
