NEIL Reynolds and Pete Smith have bolstered Clitheroe with two new attacking wingmen before Saturday's transfer deadline. The Blues management
have been short of out and out flank players of late, but Alastair Brown and Triston Hendricks-Hamilton, who join from Witton Albion and Kidsgrove Athletic respec tively, should bring added strength and depth for Sat urday's trip to Harrogate Railway. Hendricks-Hamllton has
been at Witton Albion too, having signed from Crewe Alexandra last August, before the pair both went out on loan to Alsager Town in December. Meanwhile Central mid
fielder Jason Jones has left to join his home town club of Darwen in the Second Divi sion of the North West Counties League. After Saturday's trip the
Blues then travel to face financially
troubled
Rossendale United who look to have an uncertain future. The Rossendale Valley
side are currently 15th in the table, five places higher than Clitheroe, and ended a night mare run of defeats with a 3-
tered as more than a back pass.
The fixture didn't get off to
the best of starts either, as after the visitors had choked back the stench of chicken effluent spread on the ajoining fields to the ground, Colwyn's former Burnley reserve team player Alex Kevan netted the 10th minute opener from a cor ner. The ball into the back post

0 win a t home to Gresley Rovers on Tuesday. Coltvyn Bay ........................ 2 Clitheroe FC........................ 1 CLITHEROE couldn't make the advantage count at 10- man Colwyn Bay on Tuesday. Despite the home keeper
being given his marching orders at half-time for verbal and physical abuse of the ref eree, the Blues failed to test his replacement and were ulti mately undone by set-piece goals in either half. Joel Byrom struck a 45th-
minute equaliser from an opportunist free kick to see the two sides go in level at the break, but Clitheroe were dis tinctly lacking in the final third in the second half. In fact they failed to test the
stand-in keeper at all, but for a weak header by Kris Matthews that barely regis
wasn't picked up, and the winger was on hand to rise high and nod home a free header. In fairness to the Blues,
their first half performance was exemplary, typical of the kind of football they've been producing, and on balance of possession, the home side were fortunate to be a goal ahead. But when the injured Simon
Garner made way for John Osbourne after just 15 min utes, Clitheroe's options were reduced perhaps earlier than they had liked. The equaliser came in the
final moments of the halt when co-manager Neil Reynolds was felled on the edge of the area. Byrom used his initiative
and took the free kick quickly, before the keeper had alligned his wail. Colwyn's Matt Perry got a
hand to it but was less than pleased, as a minute later, after the whistle had gone, he threw
his water bottle at the referee as the two teams left the pitch. Further remonstration with
the officials at half-time sig nalled his off-the-field dis missal, and the game appeared there for the Blues' taking. Unfortunately it wasn't to
be, as failure to deliver a decent cross and a lack of fire power cost the side dear. As when a second Colwyn
corner, this time to the near post, saw substitute Darren Wright gifted acres of space to turn with his back to goal and rifle home, Clitheroe were left to rue a long journey to Wales tha t almost proved worth while.

Clitheroe...............................3 Belper Town ........................ 2 CLITHEROE finished March unbeaten at home thanks to Ryan Fisher's second-half win ner.
Chris Ward struck form to
lay the groundwork with two first half goals, but due to the pace of Belper's play, the first 45 minutes proved a real tussle between goal-hungry sides. Two goals in as many min
utes established an entertain ing start, and had the game tied at 1-1 within three min utes of kick-off. Ward's second minute open
V.
er came courtesy of a lofted Joel Byrom free kick, which the striker looped to the top corner. And Belpor's equaliser came moments later when the Peak District side's Lee Stevenson prodded home, despite Gregg Anderson's heroics to clear the
Ryan Fisher
line failed after Danny Wood- head and Simon Garner had both been beaten. The central defender was
injured in the process, but sol diered on until the second half, while Woodhead, back in goal for his first game since Janu ary, had much more to contend with as the game went on.
Belper took the lead less
than a third of the way through the half, again thanks to Stevenson. Woodhead punched a corner
just clear of the Clitheroe area to the Belper player, who rifled his shot back through the area and in-off the Shawbridgeshot stopper. The Belper winger forced a
great save out of the Clitheroe keeper before the half was out, and Byrom struck the top of the bar at the opposite end with another dangerous free kick. But it was the dogged pur
suit of goal by Will Exton that got Clitheroe back on track, when the striker was blatantly pulled down in the Belper box when through on goal. Visiting centre back Gary
Middleton escaped a red card, despite wrenching at Exton's arm as last man, and Ward
stepped up to smash home the 21st minute spot kick. And Woodhead was called
upon again before the half was up, when he had to be equal to a close range header at his near post by Belper forward James Tavendale. Fisher's second half winner
cooled proceedings in the sec ond half when he raced onto a through ball and clinically slotted borne from just inside the area. But if not for the versatile
Paul Osbourne, who had taken to the pitch in central midfield following Jason Jones’ move to Darwen, and later switched to defence when Anderson was injured, Belper could quite easily have netted another. The new Blue put in a well-
timed iast-ditch tackle to deny Tavendale and ensured the run of results at Shawbridge con tinue.
