Public to discuss ‘super racecourse


A SERIES of public meetings will be held to discuss the proposed “super racecourse" for Kibble Valley and Hyndbum. Following two successful public meetings


in Simonstone on March 12th, further pub­ lic meetings tvill be held at Read CE Prima­ ry School on Friday April 27th, Monday April 30th, Wednesday May 16th and Fri­ day May 18th. The first meeting, on April 27th, will be


restricted to villagers and businesses of Read and Simonstone only, while the other three will be open to the general public. A business consortium backed with


finance from the UK, Middle East and Rus­ sia is spearheading the proposed racecourse, which will straddle 371 acres at Altham iii Hyndbum and Simonstone in Kibble Valley. The scheme will be the subject of a £4m. feasibility study, with plans scheduled for submission to Ribble Valley, Burnley and Hjmdbum Borough Councils by the end of 2007. SHEEP judge Mr Richard Binns, of Saltaire, was impressed Mth the high stan­ dard when a show and sale of Beltex Sired Hoggs was held at Clitheroe Auction Mart. He found his champion pen of three Bel­


tex Sired Hoggs from Messrs Fox Farms, of Withgill, near Clitheroe, and put his money where his mouth was when he later bought the 43kg hoggs for £61.20 a head (143p/kg). Messrs Fox also took second prize, selling again to Mr Binns for 141p/kg, while third prize was awarded to J. D. Holden, of Haslingden, with a pen of 38kg hoggs which sold to Bowland Foods for 136p/kg. In the commercial pens, prices were slightly back on recent weeks, but the entry


of 600 head of hoggs saw an overall average of 109p/kg. In the Beef Ring a slight increase in price
