FREE face painting, card making, craft sessions and an Easter Egg hunt are all on offer at the official launch of a new Ribble Valley business on Sunday. As the mother of two pre-school hoys

“CHARLOTTE’S WEB” (U), screenings on April 2nd, Ith and 5(h at 7-30 p.m. al Stage & Screen @ St M a ry ’s Centre, Church S ired, Clillieriio.

A CLASSIC story of loyalty, trust, and sacrifice, “Charlotte’s Web” comes to life in this delightful live-action big screen adaptation for all the family. Fern (Dakota Fanning) is one of only two living beings who sees that Wilbur is a special animal as she raises him, the runt of the litter, into a.terrific and radi ant pig. As Wilbur moves into a new barn, he

Heaven made match

MATCHING wine and food is often perceived as taking things too far, but when you have the right food with the right wine it is a match made in heaven. Fortunately, there are

only few bad matches, but when the combina tion of food and wines are harmonious then there is an added explosion of flavours in the mouth. Some tried and tested matches are a little over the top in monetary terms, such as foie gras and sauternes, but this works very well. The essence is to find a

wine whose characteris t ics add to or comple ment the flavour of the food, considering the tex ture, seasoning and sauce of the dish. For example MAN-

ZANILLA SHERRY (£ 3 .6 9 half bottle. Booths) with Spanish tapas, especially olives or fish, is a great match and can be sourced, locally, as is a goats’ cheese served grilled or warm with sauvignon blanc. My favourites, that can

be tasted easily and cheaply, are BANYULS, a vin doux natural (Domaine de la Rectorie, £11.99 half litre, at D.

begins a second profound friendship with the most unlikely of creatures - a spider named Charlotte - and their bond inspires the animals around them to come together as a family. When word gets out that Wilbur’s days are numbered, it seems that only a miracle will save him. A determined Charlotte, who sees miracles in the ordinary, spins words into her web in an effort to con vince the farmer that Wilbur is “some pig” and worth saving.

with inquiring minds and probing fingers, Siobhan Howell (36) was increasingly frus trated at the short shelf-life of many mod ern plastic toys. It spurred her to establish Unique and Wooden Toys Ltd, selling a wide range of traditional and well-made toys. It was initially an internet mail order business, but when her husband’s job brought the family to the Ribble Valley, Siobhan came across the retail development at Backridge Farm, in Twitter Lane, Waddington, and realised it was the perfect place to set up shop. With support from existing businesses at

An Easter 'eggstravaganza

TREASURE hunters in search of elusive Easter eggs will converge on Clitheroe Castle on Easter Saturday, April 7th. For the second year running

Byrnes) and a dark chocolate like GREEN AND BLACKS DARK ORGANIC 70% COCOA (Booths). Or try the great

BLACKSTICKS BLUE CHEESE (Booths) with CONCH Y TORO L,\TE HARVEST S.-LUVIGNON BLANC (Booths, £5.69 half bottle). The combi nation of the strength of the blue cheese is tamed down by the sweetness of the sauternes, in the same way the bitterness of the chocolate is changed by the dark vin doux natural in a way that alters both the wine and the per ceived taste of the choco late. Think of the wine as a

seasoning to the foods. It livens up not only the palate but your senses along the way.

it will host a mammoth Easter Egg Treasure Hunt from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., offering a fun day out for all the family. Last year’s inaugural event attract ed more than 400 children, both locals and visitors to the area, and organisers from the Friends of Chernobyl’s Chil

dren Clitheroe Branch plan to make this year’s even more “eggstravagant” and “eggseit- ing”.

Treasure Hunt forms can be

collected, from the Castle gates, at the top of Castle Street and Moor Lane, on the day of the event. The route is pram friendly and ideal for children of all ages. Adults go free, with a charge of £1.50 per child. All proceeds from the event will go to the Friends of Cher-

nobyl’s Children charity, which is run completely by volunteers. Each year a group of around 20 children from Belarus visit Clitheroe for essential respite care. They stay with local families and during their visit they'receive vital vitamins and have access to medical services. It costs £550 per child for this visit to take place and anyone keen to get involved with the charity can contact Louise on 07823 533355.

Guitarists join forces

CLASSICAL guitar legend John Williams joins forces with jazz virtuoso John Etheridge for a concert at Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall this Sunda}', April 1st. Including solo sets from

each guitarist and incredible duets combining their talents on acoustic and electric guitar, this is a collaboration not to be missed. Tickets are available from the box office on 0161 9079000 or online at www.bridgewater-hall.co.uk
