A DEDICATED and hard-working swimming coach who committed his life to helping people “achieve their dream”, has died a t the age of 69. Mr Alan Moorhouse MBE, of Read,


was bestowed with the honour from the Queen at Buckingham Palace in 1998 for the commitment he showed in sharing his passion of swimming with youngsters in the area. Mr Moorhouse was the managing direc­ tor of Admagnetics, a firm in Read which


manufactures electrical engineering prod­ ucts. He was described as having an “enor­


mous love” for swimming and spent his whole life working towards sharing that passion with others and helping them com­ pete at a high standard. The passionate swimming instructor was


the chief coach and secretary of the Bor­ ough of Burnley Competition Amateur Training Squad and formed the Burnley Bobcats swimming club where he spent six mornings and five evenings of his spare time a week training youngsters. Mr Moorhouse leaves his wife, Sally, who


he met at a dance at a Conservative club in Accrington. The couple married 45 years ago at St John’s Church in Accrington. They have three children, Angela (43), Rosemary (42) and Ian (36) and a nine- year-old grandson, Lewis. Mrs Moorhouse said: “Alan was compet­


itive, kind, generous and had a very good sense of humour and he will always be remembered for the dedication that he showed towards the Bobcats. “The MBE that he received was a very

THE fifth annual 10k Amelia Cup Fun Run will take place in September. Competitive and fun run­

tember 16th is to raise much needed funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. Runners can register from 9-


15 a.m. until 10-15 a.m. and the run will then s ta rt from West Bradford Village Hall at 10-30 a.m., with the route then making its way into Wadding- ton and Clitheroe before finish­ ing back at West Bradford. The Amelia Cup Fun Run is


organised by the friends and family of Amelia Dickinson of Whalley. She was diagnosed with Cys­


tic Fibrosis when she was just three-months-old. At the time she was in hospital with pneu­ monia, caused by the condi­ tion. Her parents and the doc­ tors treating her thought she was going to die, but she proved to be a fighter and has continued to fight every day for the last six years. Cystic Fibro­
