A SPECTACULAR one- year music project at Trin ity Youth Club reaches its climax this Bank Holiday Weekend. The long-awaited “MVP
Festival” will take place at the Castle Grounds’ band stand In Clltheroe on Satur day. The community event, a
showcase for local music tal ent, has been planned, designed and will be run by young people with support from youth workers. The free fun spectacular
will feature a battle of the bands from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday with headline acts starting at 4 p.m. The whole event is free,
thanks to the fund-raising efforts of the young people involved. The line-up includes a number of local youth bands who have spent weeks rehearsing and writing new songs for the gig. Excitingly other highlights
of the day include two well- known local bands that have kindly offered to play for free to support the project. Co-headlining are “Green
Days” and “Nightmare Visions”, who always attract a big following. Richard Buxbaum (Buxy),
front man of Green Days, said: “I ’m buzzing about playing at such a brilliant venue and to support an excellent youth project. “All we need now is some
good weather and a large crowd. It should be an excel lent family day out.” Mr Steve Procter, youth
club manager at Trinity, added: “This event signifies a year or more of hard work by the young people, staff and volunteers at the youth club. “The young people have
planned and designed the day, selected the bands and fund- raised for what hopes to be an excellent free community event. “Its going to be great see
ing more live music on the bandstand and the fact that it’s all been planned by young people shows there is a thriv ing music scene among young people in Clitheroe. “I hope members of the
public will come along and show their support’.
Swingers’ first Valley appearance
SATURDAY sees the first public appearance in the Ribble Valley of Clitheroe-based band. The Swing Commanders (pictured), with their brand new line-up, still led by fronts man supreme Peter Riley and Britain’s top Country violinist, Gaynor Sutcliffe, but now composed of six specialist musicians, five voices and 13 instruments. Newcomers include The Laverne
Sisters, local drummer Mark Warbur- ton and Accrington’s Simon Brady, not only playing lead and steel guitars but also proving exactly why he has been voted the best mandolin player in Britain for the last three years. Well established as the biggest
attraction on the Country and West ern scene for their unique rendition of
Texas Swing music, the new line-up has added the best of Forties Swing to their repertoire, with particular focus on the songs of The Andrews Sisters and other stars of the Swing era. Currently making their latest CO
before accepting an invitation to take the best of British Western Swing back to Texas, The Swing Comman ders can be seen on Saturday at the Catholic Social Club on Lowergate. Tickets can be booked on 01200 423073, with a sell-out audience expected. The same will apply on Saturday
September 29th when the band returns from a Southern tour to appear at Newton Village Hall, for which tickets are available on 01200 446262.
