florists in the country to reach the gold standard. Owner Linda Hardman said: “Winning gold is absolutely brilliant - a huge, motivational boost. And to be one of
the top 32 florists is fantastic, everyone in the business has made a huge contribution. We have just got to keep on our toes now, and we could go all the way.” She added: “We are really delighted. I t
is a very prestigious award and we are very pleased with it.” In May the shop secured a silver award
and earlier this month learned it had gone gold. To reach this far in the contest, the
Flower Shop had to pass mystery visitor and telephone tests and now has to submit a written entry covering every aspect of the business and pass an interview about plans for the future. If i t succeeds a t the next stage, or is
named a runner-up. The Flower Shop will be presented with a Platinum Award for Excellence and will go through for a chance to be crowned Flower Shop of the Year, national champion.

A FORMER Clitheroe woman will climb Kilimanjaro, the largest stanii- alone mountain in Africa, to raise funds for charity. Miss Claire Tierney (29), a former pupil
of Ribblesdale High School and Clitheroe Royal Grammar School Sixth Form Cen tre, hopes to raise money for Ethiopiaid - a charity which aims to relieve poverty and improve standards of health and edu cation in Ethiopia. Now living in Plymouth, Miss Tierney,
a recruitment consultant, will fly out to Tanzania on Saturday with work col
leagues, who are also employed by Reed Employment. At 80km by 60km in size, Kilimanjaro is
the.lGth highest mountain in the world. It is 5,896km above sea level and the climb will involve Miss Tierney walking for six days in extreme conditions before reaching the summit. If all goes to plan, she hopes to be standing on the “roof of Africa” by October 2nd. She said: “I ’m currently training in my
spare time by walking in Dartmoor National Park and doing four to five ses sions at the gym in order to improve my stamina and fitness levels.” Miss Tierney also climbed Snowdon as a practice run in August with her father.

Waddington resident Mr Jim Tierneyand for a second time with her boyfriend Luke, a footballer in Plymouth. “I have never done anything like this
before and this is going to be the biggest challenge of my life, but opportunities like this don’t come along very often so I know I have to grab it and go for it,” Miss Tier ney added. Before Miss Tierney even flies out to
Tanzania, her first challenge is to raise £2,500 for Ethiopiaid. Anyone wanting to help Miss Tierney raise money can log on to her website and make a donation a t
