FAMILY and friends of a 23-year- old Ribble Valley man, who died in a car crash at the weekend, have paid tribute to a “happy man with a friendly word for everyone”. ' Kevin Fallowes, known to many as
“Kev”, of Hawthorne Avenue, Billing- ton, died after losing control of his car and colliding with an on-coming four- wheel-drive vehicle - a month after pass ing his driving test. The accident took place at 3-55 p.m.
on Saturday. The former pupil of St Leonard’s Primary School, Langho, was driving a Peugeot 106 saloon on the Petrie roundabout when he turned off on to Whalley Road, Langho, towards Blackburn. Police and paramedics attended, but
Kevin had suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the four-wheel-drive Ford Maverick, a 29-year-old man from Stacksteads, escaped injury, but was treated for shock. The road was closed for three-and-a-half hours. Kevin, pictured above at his mother’s
wedding last year, had a long-held pas sion for cars and on leaving Ribblesdale
High School Technology College, Clitheroe, he trained as a mechanic. He later worked as a food technician at Bow- land Food Ltd, in Great Harwood, for two years, after which he worked at Slingers at Great Harwood for three years. His next job was at SITA in Lang ho, where he had been working for the past four years. His mother, Mrs Lillian Cook, and
stepfather, Robert, have described his love for cars through a family statement. They said: “He loved his job and in his spare time he often spent time with his step-grandparents with a Mini Cooper project car.” They added: “He was a very happy man with a friendly word for everyone.
to a much loved and popular son
He regularly spent Thursday nights in Whalley, where he would have a few drinks. He was an only child and his father, Thomas, died in 2000. . “He would dress up as a bunny at
Easter and as Father Christmas and enjoyed a good laugh and a joke. He was very well-known because of his recycling work.” Kevin’s work colleagues have this week
spoken of their shock and sadness at the death of a “bubbly” person, who was well-liked by everyone. “He enjoyed a laugh,” said Mr Lee
Hunt, charge hand at SITA. “He was over the moon when he passed his driv ing test the first time about a month ago. “He was a friendly man, very popular
with all the customers who come here on a regular basis.” An inquest was opened into Mr Fal
lowes’ death at Blackburn Coroner’s Office on Tuesday afternoon. Police investigations are continuing into the cir cumstances surrounding the accident. Anyone who witnessed the crash is being urged to contact Sgt Stuart Isherwood at the Accrington Road Policing Unit on 01254 353767. A funeral service will take place at St
Leonard’s Church, Langho, on Monday, followed by burial. Family flowers only
have been requested, but donations in Mr Fallowes’ memory are for the Clitheroe Heart Foundation, c/o Mrs S. Healey, Pendleside Medical Practice, Clitheroe Health Centre, Railway View Road, Clitheroe, BB7 2JG. Our picture shows floral tributes at the scene of the crash. ( B180906/2a)
