Palm Sunday Members of St Peter and St Paul’s Church, Bolton-by- Bowland, joined the congregation of Holden Chapel for the Palm Sunday service.
Most of the parish ioners walked from the Copy Nook up to chapel. Unfortunate ly the donkey which had led the Palm Sunday procession for many years had died and a replace ment had not been found.
Whist drive There was a good attendance at the monthly whist drive in Bolton-by-Bow- land Village Hall. MCs were Mr J. Kenyon and Mr P. Metcalfe.
Whist winners: Ladies - S. Tennant, B. Peel, M. Cowking. Gents - J. Procter, H. Lofthouse, S. Hogg.

Stock judging On Monday night some members of Bolton-by-Bowland Young Farmers’ Club travelled to the home of Mr David Pennington, at Chaigley. Here the boys had a very informative evening stock judging.
The next drive will be on April 28th.
The girls enjoyed flow er arranging under the watchful eye of Lois Spurgeon, at the home of Mr and Mrs Bond.

Easter fair Friends of Chatburn School would like to thank everyone who came to the Easter fair held in the school hall which raised the magnifi cent sum of £400.
Many thanks also to everyone who helped with the organisa tion.
Winners of the three competitions were: Easter eggs Eleanor Kay (junior), Hannah Binns (infant).
Easter bonnet - Isla Mackenzie (junior), James Ascroft (infant).
The event was held in St Leonard’s Church, Downham, by kind permission of Lord Clitheroe.
The choir and soloists presented a varied programme and their beautiful singing was received enthusiastically and enjoyed by all.
GISBURN Eastertide
The first communion of Easter is at 8-30 a.m. on Easter Day and at 11 a.m. an all age communion will be celebrated.
Spring fair The annual spring fair
The church will be decorated for Easter on Saturday from 10 a.m. onwards. Help with the decorating or donations towards the flowers will be greatly appreciated.
Easter services in Gis- burn Parish Church take place from Good Friday with meditation “An Hour at the Cross” at 2 p.m.
Voice concert A concert by Great Harwood and Bolton Male Voice Choir raised £200 for Chat burn Methodist Church Building Fund.

Trio are rewarded for their reading prowess
A TRIO of pupils from Chatburn Primary School have been reward ed for their reading skills.
The three pupils received certificates and prizes through the Relay Reader scheme, which is run by Lancashire County Library Ser vice and encourages young people to read more books.
Parish Church will be held on May 1st in the Festival Hall starting at 2-30 p.m.
Artistic skill A demonstration on Encaustic Art given by Mrs Sheila Kilroy was enthusiastically received by members of Gisburn WI at their meeting. Members were shown how to create beauti ful pictures from heated coloured wax. Three volunteers were invited to have a go at making a pic ture themselves. They were so thrilled by the results that they decided to book Mrs Kilroy for a day course to be held in June to learn more about this lovely art
form.Supper was served and the com petition judged.
The next meeting will be on May 6th at 7- 30 p.m.
Tricks and spots There were 49 people present at a whist and domino drive in Gisburn Festival Hall.

Alongside the usual stalls there will be a new feature - a “thanks” stall, with a variety of goods, toys, household, ani mal (not live ones), new kitchen and sweets (the initial letters spelling out “thanks”.
Children win a gold award for read ing and reviewing 50 books and those who read 26 more -the same number as there are miles in a marathon - win the coveted marathon award.

Simnel cake At tonight’s meeting of Grindleton WI members will have the chance to win a Simnel cake baked by their secretary Mrs Cynthia Open- shaw. The cake will be raffled for the North West Air Ambulance Appeal, the institute’s chosen charity this year.
Tickets for the Bow- land Forest group meeting will be on sale tonight. It promises to be a very enjoyable evening with an inspiring speaker in Mr Paul Whittaker, a pro foundly deaf musi cian, a Jacob’s join supper in true WI style and a lovely venue at Downham Village Hall. Mem bers are invited to bring guests and the tickets are £3.50.
Holy week There will be a service of Holy Communion this evening at 8-30 p.m. in St Ambrose Church, Grindleton, and on Good Friday there will be a ser vice of quiet medita tion and Holy Com munion at 9-30 a.m.

On Easter Sunday, masses are at the normal time, i.e. 8-30 a.m. in St Peter's, and 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. in St Joseph’s, Hurst Green.
The Stations of the Cross will be observed at All Hal lows', Mitton, on Good Friday at 10 a.m., a joint service for parishioners of All Hallows and St John's, Hurst Green. On Easter Sunday, the services will be at 9-30 a.m. in Mitton and 11 a.m. in Hurst Green.
St John's is holding a competition for the best decorated hard- boiled egg. Members of the congregation are invited to bring along their eggs for entry in one of the three categories: under eight, eight to 12 and adult, with prizes for the best in each.

Village theatre Tickets are still avail able for the latest offering from Spot On, Lancashire's Rural Touring Net work, when a new production from Oddbodies comes to the Memorial Hall on Wednesday, April 14th. The company's latest play, suitable for ages 14 and upwards, is "Rakes Progress", based on Hogarth's series of paintings of the same name.
The story of the Rake is told through the eyes of some of the characters who fea ture within the paintings, including a pugilist, a high wayman and even an emaciated cat. Tick ets, costing £5.50 for adults and £4.50 for concessions, are available by contact ing Mrs Kath Molyneux (01254 826564).
