The strongest influences in my work have been my environment, geographical locations. Living in Asia,
bike riding through Chinatown and all the neighbourhoods, saturates one with
enthusiasm. I always wanted to get back home to paint. I took Chinese Brush Painting for two years from a Master Painter, Lim Kay Hiong. This is where I started to appreciate Chinese Calligraphy brushes. They are wonderful to use in watercolour painting. They hold a lot of water/paint and because of their ability to maintain a point. They are wonderful for carving out shapes, leaves and petals. This is when I also started to use black in my acrylic paintings.
