Louis Tremblay was born on August 14, 1949, in Baie-Saint-Paul, county of
Charlevoix, province of Quebec. As a child he roamed the forests and waterways of the St-Lawrence River in the
company of his father and the artist painter René Richard. While the two men unfolded their trestles, the child amused himself, sometimes running in the woods, sometimes walking on the rocks all sticky with kelp. The scene repeated itself almost every day of the summer.
“These were undoubtedly the most beautiful moments of my life,” said Louis
Tremblay a few years later. Even if at the time he never touched a brush, it was his school of fine arts, in a large studio in open sky.
