The family room was dark and lacked the modern feel our homeowner wanted. The space was narrow and our client needed as much seating as possible. The first task was to remove the enormous stone fireplace and replace it with a
modern, clean backdrop created from a large-scale polished porcelain tile. The mantle and the hearth were removed for a smooth transition. The sleek new fireplace wall and the gold and bronze chandeliers add glamour to the room. Soft gray hugs the walls and the body of the sofa and the chairs. A cozy sofa in soft gray
is paired with two gray swivel gliders highlighting a contrasting green outer back. Swivel chairs were selected to allow maximum TV viewing or talking to guests in the adjacent kitchen. The area rug has a whimsical and sophisticated feel punctuated by bold colors in an
abstract pattern featuring blues, greens, and gray and provide a backdrop for this room. Modern tables feature a neutral tabletop cradled with a curved clean white base. We
chose a woven fabric with swirls of green and cobalt for the window treatments. Simple gold rods give the right balance. The old ceiling fan was replaced with an English bronze and antique gold chandelier.
Lamps in a striking tropical green glaze provide additional lighting. Accessories completed the look.
