Cutting your alcohol consumption early on can firmly prolong the enjoyment and longevity of an evening, but not if the only option at the bar is an orange juice and lemonade

In 2020 we won the Imbibe No & Low Taste Award for the best non-alcoholic wine or wine alternative. And we consistently receive the highest consumer ratings for non-alcoholic wines through our online retailers.


Our product is made by fermenting tea, not


grapes. It is naturally non-alcoholic so needs no dealcoholisation. And it has as deep a backstory in the way we source our teas, the care and attention we take in our fermentation process, and the theatre of our serve as any fine wine. The depth and complexity of its flavours are genuinely much closer to a sparkling wine than almost any dealcoholised wine on the market.


But this does not come as a surprise to experts in fermentation. A sweet tea is very close in technical composition to a grape juice. Apart from alcohol, the flavour profile of wines comes from a combination of sweetness, acidity and fruity volatiles such as esters. The same balance of flavours is produced in the fermentation of teas. Acidity is natural in the grape but is produced in bacterial fermentation in our brews. Yet the results are very similar and tea is full of tannins that create that dry puckering effect so reminiscent of great wines. We are far from the only ones that are


innovating in this space. Sparkling tea makers such as Copenhagen are blending fantastic teas with grape and acidity to similar effect, as is Danish drinks brand Muri, which ferments and blends botanics. Nine Elms is doing the same to create a red wine alternative.


So will consumers be content long-term with non-alcoholic copies of their alcoholic cousins? We believe that the next phase of development will lead to many more sophisticated, often fermented, non-alcoholic beverages that are distinct, stand on their own merits and create deep passions among their followers, just as our greatest craft beers, fine wines or sumptuous whiskies have done for generations.
