Plant-based solution for gut and overall health
Consumers continue to take a preventative approach to health by showing a rising interest in products that have a positive impact on the gut health. Produced by Bionap, ODILIA is a cutting- edge and clinically-proven ingredient that acting as a prebiotic supports overall health, including the gut-brain-muscle axis.
ionap is a cutting-edge player in manufacturing ingredients for health and well-being, personal care, and animal health markets. Our vision is: to spread the principles of the Mediterranean tradition for people’s well- being, thanks to our cutting-edge scientific research applied to natural resources, in full respect of biodiversity.
B
Bionap has found a healthy gut means healthy brain performance because they are connected to energy, better mood, stress management, brain health and social benefit. The gut health phytochemical and plant extract dietary supplements market is estimated at $11,601 million in 2030, with a CAGR of 10.05%. Today it is estimated that gut health dietary supplements will contribute 14.7% of the plant-extract dietary supplements global market growth until 2030.
From the willingness to respond to this increasing market need, Bionap has developed ODILIA, a powder extract obtained from Opuntia cladode juice standardised in polysaccharides and piscidic acid, a characterising fingerprint of this plant. Thanks to its composition, ODILIA acts as a prebiotic agent, supporting a healthy gut microbial population and may act indirectly on overall health such as immune and mucosal support and gut-brain and gut-muscle axis. The last clinical trial has demonstrated that the unique phytocomplex of polysaccharides and piscidic acid is able to have a positive impact on a person’s overall health: ■Supports healthy gut mucosal barrier ■Supports the gut homeostasis with a prebiotic activity

■Improves gut homeostasis: The Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes ratio is a marker of gut health when it’s close to one (higher values are related to dysbiosis). ODOLIA was able to improve this ratio of about 35% and 43% after four and eight weeks of supplementation respectively getting closer to one;
inflammatory and potentially pathogenic taxa, leading to a more balanced intestinal microbial community. Moreover, there was an increase in bacterial species that produce short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), which in turn, may influence brain-gut- muscle axis communication and brain function directly or indirectly, as well as

■Supports the healthy gut mucosal barrier: The supplementation highlighted an increase in the Clostridium XIVa cluster which has protective microbiological activity and functions related to the mucosal barrier that regulates mucosal homeostasis by producing SCFAs and selectively attracting T-reg cells that secrete immunomodulatory cytokines;
■Supports the overall health: The supplementation led to a significant enrichment of beneficial microorganisms which are generally associated with immunomodulatory, anti-allergy, anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory functions, as well as associated with cognition; ODILIA supplementation highlighted a depletion of pro-
the energy metabolism and the feeding behaviour as the stress-associated eating.
The idea of the brain-gut-muscle axis is gradually being confirmed by growing scientific evidence that could also be described as overall health. The gut homeostasis seems a key factor in human health as the basis for a positive interaction of intestinal microbiota, central nervous system, skeletal muscle energy metabolism, and feeding behaviour regulation. ●
