Giving New Life
Bree Stallings ’13 played an integral part in Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit Charlotte as the director of artistic experiences at Blumenthal Performing Arts. Housed in the Ford building in Charlotte’s Camp North End, the exhibit opened in the summer of 2021 and runs through January 2. At last count, 265,000 tickets have been sold. The studio art major worked with Mike Wirth,
associate professor, art, design and music department at Queens, among others, on this project. Wirth helped by being an AR filter with John Bates. This filter allowed the
public to interact with a Vincent tire sculpture. Wirth also created the Van Gogh face filter, which guests used in selfie mode on their phones. In this photo, Stallings stands in front of her mural
inspired by Van Gogh’s Willows at Sunset painting.“I incorporated 3-d texture, Japanese handmade paper, and both latex and spray paint to give life to a wall in the historic Ford building and create a bright photo op for our guests,” she explained. “The customized paint can was built by local artisans Majestic Scenic to perfectly match the mural.”
