NOT TO BE SERVED BUT TO SERVE — IN A NEW WAY

Queens’ mission—to bring people together and leave Charlotte as well as the world better than we found it— drove the university to partner with the Davis United World College Scholars Program. This scholarship program is the largest privately funded international scholarship program in the world. Deliberately diverse, United World College (UWC)

scholars represent more than 150 countries and territories, and study at 18 different locations across five continents. Students selected for this program are fueled by fostering connections globally and deepening their cross-cultural understanding, as they grow into future leaders and world decision-makers. Queens is proud to join more than 100

universities, including Colby College, Princeton

University and Wellesley College, in supporting these global scholars in our college communities. Partnering with the Davis Foundation to bring these scholars to campus will allow for even more cross- cultural exchanges and global opportunities. “These exceptional scholars are driven by a passion

to build a stronger, more peaceful and sustainable future for our world,” said President Dan Lugo. We know these students will contribute to and

benefit from the Queens experience. Faculty, staff and students are excited to welcome more UWC Scholars to campus in the years to come.

Royal Voices of Charlotte, Queens’ new highly selective chamber choir, received a competitive invitation to perform at the state convention for the North Carolina chapter of the American Choral Directors Association. Comprised of 24 members, the choir was one of four who performed in Raleigh on October 9 for approximately 400 choral conductors. “It was important not just to highlight what we’re doing at Queens in the choral performance area, but to also highlight

other areas of the university,” explained Justin Smith, Ph.D., director of choral activities and director of the music program, adding that the choir performed the live debut of The Singers, an original piece composed by Zach Zubow, Ph.D., assistant professor of music at Queens.
