New Orleans native Troy Andrews—known as Trombone Shorty—joined by his longtime band, Orleans Avenue, kicked off the 2021- 2022 Arts at Queens Spotlight Series with an electrifying performance at the Sarah Belk Gambrell Center for the Arts and Civic Engagement. The Grammy-nominated musician has performed at the White House and the Grammys multiple times; has opened tours for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lenny Kravitz and the Foo Fighters; voiced the iconic sound of the adult characters in The Peanuts Movie; earned the coveted closing set at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and released two highly-praised children’s books. What a way to welcome back live performances to the Sandra Levine Theatre!

ON THE COVER: internationally acclaimed artist Shepard Fairey and his Obey Giant team created a colorful 1,300-square-foot mural on the Wellesley Avenue side of the Sarah Belk Gambrell Center for the Arts and Civic Engagement. Inspired by Queens’ motto, “not to be served, but to serve,” the stunning mural, titled Embrace Justice, conveys a message of hope through creativity, innovation, integrity and respect.
