1951 Te class expresses sympathy to Betty Johnson Gray on the death of her brother, Dr. Kenneth M. Johnson, who passed away on January 18.

1952 William Sullivan was one of the Korean War veterans who attended Queens in 1952. He is now 91 years old. Te best news he can give you is that he has been married to his wonderful wife for 71 years.
1953 Te class expresses sympathy to Jeanne Harrison MacDonald on the death of her husband, Te Reverend Dr. Charles R. MacDonald, who passed away on January 27.
Te class expresses sympathy toNancy Huddleston Russell on the death of her husband, Steven Holland Russell, who passed away on February 5, 2020.
1955 Nancy Whisnant Collins is living in Menlo Park, California, and working as an associate for the Jacobs Family
Foundation, which “supports research, education and the dissemination of knowledge.” Te foundation’s most recent grant was to the Rocky Mt. Institute for its outstanding work on climate control. Prior to this, Nancy held a number of jobs, including assistant director of the Sloan Executive Program at the Stanford Graduate School of Business; corporate development officer, GSB; assistant director at the Hoover Institution; assistant to the president at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation; and executive director of the Marconi Society. Nancy currently serves on four boards in the Bay Area. She has three sons and eight grandchildren.
1956 Te class expresses sympathy to Anett B. Wannamaker on the death of her son, Edward Wannamaker, who passed away on September 13, 2020.
1957 Te class expresses sympathy to Sara Bee Craig Johnson on the death of her husband, James R. Johnson, Jr., who passed away on October 24, 2020.
1959 Te class expresses sympathy to Mary Lou Macon Bell on the death of her husband, Charles E. Bell, Jr., who passed away on January 27.
OnDoris Irvin Kiser’s return from a month-long cruise around Cape Horn in April of 2020, she came down with Covid-19 and nearly died. She was in the hospital for two weeks and in the
ICU for eight days. Doris had 24-hour care for a month and had to learn to walk again. Half of her hair fell out in June, but it came back by Christmas. She still has a little brain fog, and her daughter will not let her drive. In her ongoing recovery, Doris completes physical therapy for 45 minutes four days a week and walks a mile daily. She was in great physical shape before this happened, and she credits her survival to that. If you are even thinking about not getting your shot, read this again and go get it immediately.
Jane Wayburn McMillan enjoyed meeting and visiting with Queens friends, Jean McLaurin Graham ’58 and Flo Denny Durway ’60, at their beauty salon in Raleigh. It’s always fun to see each other and share news, especially of happenings at the university and with their other Queens friends.

Te class expresses sympathy toMarie Rourk Harrison on the death of her sister-in-law, Jane Davis Rourk, who passed away on January 3.
Te class expresses sympathy to Hilda Lee Hull on the death of her husband, Allen M. Hull, who passed away on January 12.
Suzanne Davis Ross of Roanoke, Virginia, and her daughter, Michele Walter, of Blacksburg, Virginia, were both judged in the 49th Annual Exhibition of the Virginia Watercolor Society in Richmond. Suzanne is a
founding member with signature status, and Michele was awarded the same at the event, where they also benefitted from a workshop led by Frederick Graff, AWS. Covid protocols were in place, and all 26 attendees stayed safe and enjoyed the awards banquet in the pink ballroom of the Virginia Museum of Art.
1961 AlthoughAdelaide Anderson Davis was very sad to learn that she and her classmates would not be celebrating their 60th class reunion for another year because of the pandemic, she understands. One good thing that has come out of staying at home so much are the phone calls and emails that she has enjoyed with classmates and other alumni. Adelaide’s roommate of four years at Queens, Bebie Linn Chambers, called her several times, and the two had fun rreminiscing about their days at Queens. One memory that stands out was when she and so many of her classmates had what they think was the flu during their freshman year. Tey all lived in Watkins and were in bed with it for what seemed like weeks. She thinks that meals were delivered to their dorm rooms and a nurse came by to check on the students often. Tank goodness they all made it and finished the year with lots of other good times.
