the drama program at Queens,” Blowers said, adding that later that year he invited the Hadleys to a graduation party at his humble apartment with fellow college students. “Tey showed up, and Dr. Hadley got along great with everybody. He had that ability.”


Whether Charles was guiding students who were away from home for the first time or coaching stars such as Vivien Leigh, Rue McClanahan, Robert Duvall or Scarlett Johansson on diction, he could connect on any level with anyone. His talent for meeting people wherever they were in life was instrumental in his role as an educator. Not only did students arrive to his class on time for fear of being locked out, they never contemplated skipping. “He just had this way of making you feel special and feel present in every single class, which is why you never missed his class,
