Commonwealth Games medal winner for Scotland, Paul Foster MBE has taken ownership of the latest vehicle for his firm 8’Ees Cabs – a bronze Kia Ceed Estate to match his latest medal. The multiple Lawn Bowls world champion took bronze at the 2022 Commonwealth
Games in Birmingham, to add to his four Gold medals won in the pairs and fours events in 2006, 2014 and 2018. In addition to his bowling career, Paul is a partner in the Troon-based taxi firm, which is a longstanding client of The Taxi Centre, part of the Vertu Motors group, which supplied the latest car. Since it started serving independent taxi drivers and firms in 2001, the Glasgow-based The Taxi Centre has sold more than 30,000 vehicles directly to customers. Cars and minibuses provided by The Taxi Centre have been purchased by firms and drivers in towns and cities throughout the UK, with many customers regularly returning to replace their vehicles. In 2020, The Taxi Centre invested £100,000 in a new location on Kennishead Road in Glasgow,
offering
customers a dedicated indoor showroom for the first time and allowing it to expand its team into double figures. PIONEERING CAMERAS TO BE TRIALLED IN S. WEST
Pioneering cameras which can detect whether a driver is on their phone is being rolled out across Devon and Cornwall over the next two months. The technology, which can also detect whether drivers are wearing a seatbelt, is being rolled out on select routes The trial is being funded by the Vision Zero South West road safety partnership and overseen by Devon and Cornwall Police in an effort to deter drivers from distractions which can result in serious and fatal collisions.
The Acusensus system is housed in a vehicle equipped 80
with multiple cameras which record footage of passing motorists. Images captured by the cameras are processed using artificial intelligence (AI) to determine if motorists were using a handheld mobile phone or if drivers and passengers were without a seat belt. It can also determine the speed a vehicle was travelling at the time. Any images in which a potential offence is detected are then reviewed by a
human. If an offence has been correctly identified, the driver will either be sent a warning letter or a notice of intended prosecution, depending on the severity.
