THREE YEARS’ JAIL FOR PASSENGER WHO GRABBED WREXHAM CABBIE BY NECK AND STOLE TAKINGS
A back seat passenger grabbed a cabbie by the neck then stole his night’s takings. The Daily Post reports that Lyndsey Royce, 29 from Wrexham, admitted robbery at Caernarfon Crown Court. Prosecutor David Mainstone told how taxi driver Djamel Rouibah had been working for Speedie Cars in Wrexham on Saturday, November 28, 2020. At 11.45pm he picked up a woman called “Amy” from an address to take her to Wrexham. Three women - the defendant Lyndsey Royce, her mother and an unidentified woman - got in with a dog. All three sat in the back seat, with Royce in the middle and her mother behind the driver. The court heard that when they got to Wrexham Mr Rouibah said
the fare was £6.60. Royce’s mother gave the driver £10 and he gave her change. But she said she had given him £20. He disputed this and as the £10 was held up the defendant’s mother snatched it from his hand. He was asked what the note was that he had dealt with before and when he held up another £10 the mother took that too. Lyndsey Royce then “grabbed his neck and pulled him back into the seat”. MAN JAILED AFTER STEALING BLACK CAB IN AYLESBURY
A man has been jailed after he admitted to stealing a black cab in Aylesbury. The Bucks Herald reports that John Jason Fitzgerald, 34, from Aylesbury, pleaded guilty to theft of a motor vehicle, driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance at High Wycombe Magistrates’ court on Friday 9 September. He was sentenced to 14 weeks’ imprisonment and received a further 24-month driving disqualification. The previous day, police officers spotted a black taxi being driven at speed. Aylesbury Stronghold Team officers knew that Fitzgerald was disqualified from driving and with the assistance of the proactive Roads Policing Unit, he was stopped. He tried to run away but was quickly detained by officers. The police force was swiftly able to confirm that the black cab had been stolen minutes before. Fitzgerald was arrested and charged that day. PC Levi Fensom said: “Thankfully the taxi was not damaged and has been returned to it’s grateful owner.”

was swearing - as he was still restrained by Royce who then let him go and grabbed the remaining £180 takings. Police arrived and another taxi firm identified Royce and she was arrested. In a victim statement Mr Rouibah said he was off work for weeks and he had to cancel his holiday. He used to enjoy his job but is now fearful but he can’t find other work. The judge said only a custodial sentence was appropriate. She said: “Whilst Mr Rouibah could have fought you off he didn’t because he did not want to use force against females.” Royce was jailed for three years and will serve half with the remainder on licence. She must pay a £190 statutory surcharge.
TEEN WHO ABUSED CHESTER CABBIE TO PAY COMPENSATION
A teenager who racially abused a cabbie and kicked out at his vehicle has been ordered to pay hundreds of pounds in compensation. Evan Wright, 19, from Ellesmere Port, pleaded guilty to charges of racial abuse and criminal damage at Chester Magistrates Court on September 13. Prosecuting, Emily Comer said it was at 4.50am on February 5 when Tahir Majeed, was working in Chester. Wright was part of a group of seven who tried to get into the taxi. Mr Majeed explained that not all of them could get in. One thug punched a window and kicked the vehicle, and Wright joined in by kicking at the side of the taxi. Mr Majeed was scared and phoned the police. As he got out to assess the damage, Wright hurled racial abuse, calling him “dirty”, a “paedophile” and a “P***”. He apologised for his language in police interview. Wright was told to pay £850 compensation and he must complete 100 hours unpaid work.
