THE PASSING OF HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN
This month, like the rest of the country, the Institute of Licensing has paid tribute to Her Majesty the Queen following the sad announcement of her death on 8 September 2022.
John Garforth, JP, IoL Vice Chairman said:
“This is a very sad day for the nation and commonwealth. Her Majesty was the longest serving monarch in British history and has been with us all of our lives as a leader, figurehead and inspiration.
Her passing will leave a massive void in the nation’s lives and hearts, and we pray for her and the royal family at this very sad time. We also think of the new King as he takes on his constitutional role. As a mark of respect, all IoL events will be postponed until after the funeral has taken place and national mourning has ceased”.
I too would wish to add my personal condolences to the many others that have been made from all over the country and the world.
Colleagues in the public sector across the country will have played a vital part in ensuring the safety of so many thousands of people who took part in and attended the proceedings and no doubt the taxi industry will have played an important role in enabling people to travel from their homes to events.
The last month has also seen the appointment of Liz Truss as Prime Minister and we will have to wait and see how in time the new Government responds to issues in the industry and the rest of the country.
TAXI CONFERENCE
Turning to more licensing focused matters, the Institute of Licensing is gearing up to host its regular Taxi Conference in Birmingham on 12 October.
This is open to everyone with an interest in taxi licensing, including local authority officers and importantly members of the trade and provides a great opportunity to keep up to date with the latest happenings in the sector. At the time of writing there are still a few places available, with attendance including the benefits of membership to the Institute.
78 OCTOBER 2022 PHTM
As you would expect, much of the month’s recent news items have been dominated by arrangements for the Royal funeral and having watched the event many appear to be filled with a sense of pride after witnessing the grand display put on by those numerous organisations and personnel involved in Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Funeral.
