ALL THINGS LICENSING


The Taxi Conference will have a packed agenda which is relevant to anyone who has an interest in the sector. The day kicks off with an update on recent legislative changes from industry expert, James Button. This will be followed by


the


demonstration of a licensing sub-committee hearing which will provide a relevant training opportunity for both local authorities and members of the trade who may at some point have to attend such a hearing.


Following this, there is an operator discussion panel featuring several industry experts including:


• Andy Mahoney MBE from 24 x 7 Ltd,


• David Lawrie from the National Private Hire and Taxi Association,


• Steve McNamara from the Licensed Taxi Drivers Association,


• Steve Wright from The Licensed Private Hire Car Association and


• Representatives from Uber (TBC).


Next on the agenda, relevant to the industry in Wales, is an update on Welsh legislative changes followed by a session on the Disclosure and Barring Service and information sharing.


I am also presenting a session on effective enforcement discussing some of the cases I have taken to implement council-approved policy and other decisions, as well a few personal examples of responding to complaints and discussing using mechanisms available to authorities to improve the effectiveness of enforcement.


Finally, there will be a speaker talking about electric vehicles, covering the advantages and dis- advantages, best practice for introduction and how to


overcome hurdles which may present themselves.


The event represents a great opportunity to hear about the latest information relevant to the taxi and private hire sector and is very much open to members of the trade, reflecting the IoL’s broad church appeal and desire to represent anyone with an interest in licensing, both regulators and the trade.
