DERBY PRIVATE HIRE DRIVER STOPS SCAMMERS FROM ROBBING VULNERABLE ELDERLY LADY
Well done to caring Derby private hire driver, Nayyer Iqbal Bhatti, who was instrumental in stopping sophisticated scammers from robbing a vulnerable elderly lady. Nayyer who works for Albatross Cars in Derby, picked up an 80 year-old widow who was on the way to the bank, as she said she had been called there by the bank due to some fraudulent activity on her account.
At the end of the ride, Nayyer overheard the customer talking on the phone to
the Fraud
Investigation Officer, who asked the lady to wait outside the bank and ‘await further instructions’. He grew very suspicious at this stage and immediately went
inside the bank and spoke to a member of staff who informed him it was a classical scam and had nothing to do with the bank. Nayyer then rushed outside to inform the customer of the reality and then took her inside the bank, where staff took over and advised
the customer to not take any more calls.
This post is especially important if you have any elderly parents or relatives as these scammers are manipulative and really good at preying on vulnerable people. Albatross cars Manager, Ateeq Naseem, said: “Derbyshire County Council first informed us about scams against elderly people a few months ago on the #NeighbourhoodAlert newsletter and we had asked our drivers to remain vigilant. “We’re glad Nayyer Iqbal Bhatti was there to help this lady from being robbed and we ask you to spread the message to stop these despicable people.”
TAXI DRIVER SEES PENSIONER STRUGGLING IN HILLINGDON AND TAKES HER HOME FOR FREE
West London locals have had their spirits lifted after a heart-warming story of simple kindness was shared online in which a struggling elderly woman was helped home by a taxi driver for free after being spotted in difficulty by other shoppers. Writing in a local Facebook group Hillingdon local, Tekka Knowles, shared what he had seen as members of the community rushed to the aid of the pensioner. He said: “Today I witnessed decency that still exists within Hillingdon. A lady well in her 80s was confused going into the M&S at a BP petrol station.. “I saw her walk out and she dropped items from her bag, so a

young lad picked them up and made sure she was okay and walked into the shop. She then walked in front of a car, so I ran over, she was so confused but she knew where she lived.” He continued: “I asked her to walk over to the front of M&S then the young man who had picked up her shopping was exiting the BP. One look and we knew we could not leave her alone. We decided that we would pay for a taxi for her as she knew where she lived. “A local taxi driver offered to take her home in his official taxi. How fantastic the decency of people to help this lady. If you are the taxi driver in your official taxi cab, God bless you.”
The kindness displayed by the two men and the cabbie struck a chord with other members of the Facebook group, with several praising them. One said: “Just when we feel this country has gone to the dogs, we hear a story like this. We only hear of despair and no hope, let’s put online the good things that are happening and thank the lovely people who give us hope.” A second shared: “That’s really nice to hear. How lovely for someone to care.” Another added: “Thank you to you, and the guy. Sounds like a team effort for her. Bless her.” Finally one man wrote: “Thank you to all concerned. Good people of Hillingdon.”
