The pair organised and took part in a number of activities, including a sponsored walk, darts tourna- ment, auction and a live band concert. Nicola told the Exmouth Herald: “We decided that we wanted to raise money for the charity because my dad, Charlie Tigwell, and my husband’s father both died of cancer.”
PENISTONE DRIVERS TAKE PENSIONERS TO SEASIDE
A convoy made its way to Cleethorpes after a group of Peni- stone taxi drivers decided to take 20 seniors from the town on a trip to the sea- side.
Mark Taylor, who owns MT Taxis, came up with the idea to take them to the seaside out of ‘a sign of respect’ for the elderly. He told the Barnsley
Chronicle: “I was on the job driving one day just thinking to myself how many times I hear old folk in my taxi say- ing how lovely it would be to go to the seaside for a day.
“I had a word with the other lads who run taxi and travel servic- es in Penistone and we all decided it’d be great to do it and be able to take them out
for the day.
“These people have done a lot in their time for the country and we owe them a lot. I sup- pose it’s our way of giving something back for what they did for us, like in the war. “It’s about showing a sign of respect really.” Tony Larkin, of Crow Edge, contacted the Chronicle to say how thrilled he and friend Carole Andelic were to hear Mark and his friends would be whisking them off to the seaside town. Tony, 66, said: “They didn’t charge us a penny and it was such a lovely day out for us all. “We just pottered around the town, looked at one or two shops and then went to the bingo hall there. “It was a nice relaxing day and we’re so grateful to all the driv- ers who took us there for nowt and big thanks go to Mark for organising it.”

Mark says he hopes to make the trip an annu- al jaunt and can’t wait to see where they all end up next year.
