AYLESBURY VALE FIRM’S SHUTTLE BID COULD
HELP COMMUTERS SAVE - AND CLEAR ROADS A taxi company from Wendover has announced plans to run a shuttle service for the town, to cut down on the number of commuters who use residential roads to park.
to under-cut the stan- dard parking cost by charging commuters roughly £3 to be dropped off at the sta- tion in the mornings and picked up in the afternoons and evenings.
Alexanders Taxis, which operates from Pound Street, is trying to establish which routes can be included in the shuttle bus serv- ice and how many commuters will use it. The Wendover station car park is run by Chiltern Railways and costs £5 for a day’s parking.
Alexanders Taxis wants
Sue Karimzandi who runs the taxi company with her husband said they have already been given the go-ahead by Chiltern Railways. She told the Bucks Herald: “We have two eight-seater buses and three six-seater buses, so depending on how popular the scheme is, we could use all of them and
possibly look at get- ting more vehicles if they are needed. “We would need to work out the train times and decide when people need picking up and drop- ping back home. “If it works, we could expand the area and collect from areas such as St Leonards. The more people that use it, the cheaper it is for the commuters.” Norman Western, who lives in Vine Trees, has been campaigning for increased parking in Wendover for com- muters and shoppers. He feels that the shut-
tle bus service will help to deter com- muters travelling into London from parking on residential roads such as his.
He said: “There are three issues here - there are the London commuters who come from outside Wendover, there are the people who park in the resi- dential roads who work in Wendover, and there are the shoppers.” County councillor Mar- ion Clayton welcomed the idea of the shuttle. She said: “As far as I’m concerned the shuttle bus is a fantastic idea. It’s something I have
been trying to get some support for, and I failed dismally, so I’m extremely pleased that Alexanders have decided to take up the idea.
“I sympathise with the commuters who don’t
want to pay £5 a day to park in the railway car park and we have approached Chiltern Railways in the past about lowering the cost, and perhaps that’s something we need to look at again.”
