TAXI USED IN HIT FILM MAMMA MIA! GIVEN RED CARPET TREATMENT


The New York taxi used in the film Mamma Mia! last night made a star appearance at a community showing of the box office hit. The taxi was bought six months ago by Suffolk coach opera- tor Ben Fosker and was last month being used in the produc- tion of another film at Elstree Studios, in London. However, Mr Fosker then travelled to the studios to pick up the vehicle and drive it back to Suffolk for display outside Eye Community Centre before that evening’s showing of Mamma Mia!, a musical


The taxi used in the film was manufac- tured in 2003. It was bought by Mr Fosker on an internet auc- tion site and it cost him £2,500.


He is a member of the Vintage London Taxi Club and bought it from another mem- ber. Mr Fosker, who lives with his partner,

based on the songs of Abba and starring Meryl Streep and Julie Walters.


The film, which fea- tures songs such as Dancing Queen and Take a Chance on


Me, has attracted large audiences since its release ear- lier this year.


Eye, and has a coach depot at nearby Den- ham, intends to use the vehicle for wed- dings and other celebrations in con- nection with a sideline business he runs called Gladcabs. He told the East Anglian Times: “New York taxi firms only


keep their vehicles for three years and they are then sold on. There are quite a few in this country and some of them - including my own - are regularly used for film work.


“My vehicle has been used for the Jonathan Creek tele- vision series and, more recently, for a film called Kick Ass.” The showing of Mamma Mia!, at Eye, sold out several weeks ago.


The film was also booked by the local film club at Strad- broke for a showing in the community centre on the evening of December 4.
