4 PRIVATE HIRE AND TAXI MONTHLY
...A TIME FOR REFLECTION...
Once again we - that is, us humble folk what put th’words together for th’paper - find our- selves in the rather unusual situation of shouting HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! to all PHTM readers, and hoping you all had a top-hole, rather spiffing festive season... when in reali- ty, the festive season hasn’t happened for us yet at the point of put- ting th’words down. Such is the joy of peri- odical journals - loosely translated, it means a monthly publication that gets put together in advance of the holiday period when the print- ers are closed. We should worry... the likes of Ideal Home and suchlike mags are pho- tographing their cosy, snow-covered Christ- mas home decoration features in August! What’s the diff... one way or another, we can still offer our best wish- es to all PHTM readers for a safe and sane, but financially fantastic,
2009. However, the usual trend at the turn of the year is to look back and reflect upon the previous 365 days, so we won’t buck the trend... join us if you will on our annual trek down Nostalgia Lane. To kick off, we offer our usual Review of the Year section, which is always kind of fun. The only category we missed out on this year, funnily enough, was Animal Crackers... for some unknown reason there was a dearth of ahhh-cute animal sto- ries during 08. Shame. But all the rest are there including Bureaucracy Bowl, a particular favourite. Plus that handful of nonsensical whims we group together under ‘N’ Apart from That... any- thing to lighten the mood a bit.
Because let’s face it: the preponderance of terror/knifemare/securi- ty stories would do our heads in if that’s all there was to read
about! Unfortunately they don’t go away... there’s still too many in every issue, including this one. But we get the feeling that, month by month, awareness is being raised round the country of the level of driver attacks and dan- ger generally, and the need for greater securi- ty measures including in-car CCTV. Long may it accelerate.
Speaking of accelera- tion, and looking forward for a minute rather than backward, you will have already seen the announce- ment on Page One about next year’s Taxi and Private Hire Exhibi- tion on May 27/28 at the Ricoh Arena in Coven- try.
Talk about an incentive to turn up somewhere!
More
details will be made available in each tanta- lising issue leading up to the Coventry show - see you there or what! Even though this is a quiet time traditionally for council-type activity,

discussed in this last twelve months’ issues. If you believe that noth- ing is going on in our trade, think again - and read all about it inside. And brace yourself for more activity in 2009, that’s a fact. We have a company profile from Crawley, a driver profile from Leeds, and a generous helping of chaos from Birmingham! (Oops, sorry...) Read all about it inside... whoever said the January issue could be dull and tame, don’t you believe it.
As the penning person
of this column departs for grandparent duty (not a duty at all, be assured of that!) in for- eign parts, with apologies for a swift departure sans cheerio on press deadline, may we once again wish each and every one of our readers the best possible combination of good happenings during the coming year. And hopes that you continue to read our pages, so that you recognise a snippet or two come next year’s reflections.
All the very best.
