MANSFIELD MAN RACIALLY ABUSED AND PUNCHED CABBIE AFER SPILLING FOOD IN HIS CAB

A Mansfield man hurled racist abuse and punched a cabbie after spilling food in his cab, a court has heard. According to Chad, Ian Rigley was drunk when he hailed the taxi last July said prosecutor Andrew Conboy. He was warned not to eat the takeaway food but the 36-year-old spilled some on the back seat. The driver stopped the car and told him there was a £60 soiling charge and Rigley tried to wipe the mess up with tissues, but when the driver told him it

needed soap and water, he threatened ‘to knock his teeth out of his face.’ He loomed over the driver and forced him into a crouching position, before punching him in the back of his head. Someone tried to intervene and over- heard Rigley using more racist insults. The court heard the defendant was jailed for 180 days in 2008 for a racially- aggravated assault, and there had been a ‘recent spate of offending.’ Rigley, from Mansfield, initially denied racially aggravated harassment and

racially aggravated assault when he appeared at Mansfield Magistrates Court, on February 8, this year. He changed his pleas to guilty before a trial on Friday, 20 May. Magistrates adjourned the case so a probation report can be prepared, and the possibility of an alcohol treatment order explored, before he is sentenced on June 9. Mr Conboy asked for £300 towards the total £620 cost of preparing the case for a trial.

MANCHESTER CABBIE LURED INTO DEAD END STREET AND BEATEN IN VILE RACIST ATTACK

A cabbie was the victim of a vicious racist attack after being lured into a dead end street and beaten with a knuckle duster. But six days after the assault he was still waiting for GMP to interview him. According to the Manchester Evening News, Mohammed Zubair, suffered a fractured cheekbone and believes he was assaulted just because he was wearing “Asian clothing” on the second day of Eid. He has slammed police for their slow response after he managed to secure a CCTV image of the suspect, and told police he had it. Mr Zubair required hospital treatment due to the thug wearing a knuckle duster when he hit him. He reported the attack immediately to police. Mr Zubair, 35, who works for Cresta Cars, said: “I picked up a couple on 3 May to go to a convenience store. On the way back they asked to go to a dead end street. Before my car had stopped the man punched me from behind. There had been no dispute about the fare or anything else. “He started using the P word and I got out of the car straight away. He started making comments about my clothes.

“He had a knuckle duster on and was more aggressive when we got out of the car, and was going to attack me further, so I backed off. He said ‘I am going to knock you out’. The girl tried to grab him and said ‘don’t hit him’. They walked off without paying. “I have a fracture to my cheek just under my eye. I reported the attack to the police immediately who said an officer would be in touch. I then went back to the store and got CCTV of the

man who hit me. I gave this to the police, but no one has been to see me. “I am speaking out because I don’t want anyone else to experience this. Taxi drivers have no protection at all - we get abused and attacked.” GMP Superintendent Paul Walker, said: “This is not the right level of service the public expect, especially in a case where the man has been assaulted in his own vehicle, and we apologise.” GMP issued an update: “A 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of section 20 assault. He remains in custody at this time.”
