LEVC CELEBRATES MILESTONE OF 7,000 GLOBAL ELECTRIC TAXI SALES WITH FREE CAB RIDES

LEVC has marked a major milestone of 7,000 global sales of its world-famous TX – the world’s most advanced electric taxi. In recognition of the black cab’s iconic status in the capital, LEVC is giving Londoners the chance to hail a ride for free this week. From 19 May until 26th May, three unique ‘celebration cabs’ roamed around central London, each kitted out with a unique exterior, as well as a special surprise inside for passengers, celebrating not only 7,000 global TX sales but also the upcoming Jubilee. Over the period, anyone who hailed one of the three distinctive taxis was able to travel from their pick-up point to any destination within the North and South Circular*, with the fare being picked up by LEVC. Since launching in 2018, the TX has provided sustainable transport to both owners and passengers in more than 20 countries.

Over the last four years, LEVC’s electric TX taxi has travelled more than 418 million miles globally and prevented 127,000 tonnes of CO2

being emitted

into the atmosphere. Joerg Hofmann, CEO of LEVC, com- mented: “LEVC is proud to have sold 7,000 electric TX taxis across the globe. The iconic black cab can now be seen from Paris to Madrid and Cairo to Tokyo; it truly is a vehicle for everyone, everywhere. “As the iconic “black cab” is an integral

part of the London landscape, we wanted to mark 7,000 global sales of our TX in the capital. As the British population will also be celebrating Queen Elizabeth II’s reign of 70 years, we felt it was appropriate to bring a classic British street party theme to our three celebration cabs. “The black cab has been a familiar sight on city streets for more than a hundred years and today’s TX has never been more fit for purpose. Offering unrivalled accessibility, capable of zero emissions and eliminating range anxi- ety, the TX is the ideal choice for both cab-drivers and passengers in any city.” LEVC’s TX features flexible space for up to six passengers and includes an integrated wheelchair ramp for a forward-facing wheelchair – the only taxi of its kind to do so. The TX’s eCity technology provides a pure EV range of more than 64 miles and a total range-extended capacity of 318 miles.

MERTHYR TYDFIL TAKES CLEAN TRANSPORT STRIDES WITH TONY’S TAXIS AND GREEN FLEET

A long-established Merthyr Tydfil cab- bie has become the first in the county borough to launch an EV service. Merthyr Tydfil CBC is hoping that other proprietors will follow in the footsteps of Anthony Brown, who has run Tony’s Taxis and Minibus Hire for the past 20 years, and take advantage of an initia- tive to help them do so. The council’s Welsh Government-fund- ed ‘Green Fleet’ Scheme is a ‘try before you buy’ programme which allows taxi drivers to ‘borrow’ a fully electric, WAV for 30 days free of charge. The trial includes free charging, insur- ance, vehicle licensing and breakdown cover, all funded under the scheme. Tony, however, has already taken the plunge and paid for his own. He said: “I

knew it was the right time to make the change to electric. With diesel prices rising so much, I had to think about the long term.” And he’s delighted with his quiet, fumeless, money-saving new vehicle. “For me changing to an electric taxi

was a no brainer, he added. “This is the future for cars.” Head of Public Protection Paul Lewis said: “It’s fantastic to see one of our licenced taxi drivers go electric. The future of travel is here through clean carbon free vehicles. Tony is the first to embrace change and I am sure many more will follow his lead.” Tony is making use of two charging points installed at the Merthyr Tydfil’s bus interchange, which are available for free to ‘Green Fleet’ Scheme drivers. Privately owned taxis can use them on a pay-as-you-go basis. Licensed Hackney Carriage drivers can register to take part in the Green Fleet Scheme trials via: www.electrictaxiswales.co.uk
