“Salaam to all just to let you know, I had an incident today where a passenger left her bag in my car. When she phoned me, she was extremely aggressive demanding that I drop the bag off there and then. But I could not, due to other commitments and jobs waiting, she then started threat- ening me.
After an intense argument I put the phone down and called Uber, who advised me to take the bag back to her. I said I did not want to because of her attitude and I did not want the situation to escalate, so they told me to take it to an Uber hub in the morning via an appointment.
I made the appointment for the next morning and when I got home I read my Namaz. An hour later the door knocked aggressively, my son opened the door to find five lads at my door. I went to the door to find out that they were from the Uber passenger who had left the bag!
They looked angry and demanded I come outside and give them the bag! I was shocked how they got my home address, but I shut the door quickly and phoned the police.
They kept knocking on the door even after I said the bag is going to be at the Uber hub for them to collect; then they must have seen or heard police coming so they left.
I was alone with my wife and kids! it was not a pleasant experience; my kids were scared!
The bottom line is how did they get my address? When I phoned Uber, with the police officer next to me, who also spoke to Uber, they would not cooperate with the police, nor would they give them the passenger’s details so they could return the bag and resolve this matter faster.
I remembered the address and gave the police the bag to return it. When the police questioned the lady, she said that Uber gave her my address!
On one hand they refused to help the police because of data protection, but on the other hand, they freely gave the passenger the driver’s home address! Are drivers not pro- tected by the same data protection laws as the passengers? I will be asking Uber tomorrow how and why did this happen.
Drivers please be careful with these passengers because Uber is not at all in favour of the driver’s safety and protection.

This post describes an incident, which is a massive safety concern! But once posted, the responses showed that it was not an isolated incident, as can be seen here:
“Can actually say that this is accurate. It has happened to me before. Customer stated they left their phone in my car when in reality they didn’t. Didn’t think much of it until someone came knocking at 6am in the morning wanting to search my car.
I was flabbergasted as to how they got my address, but thought they might have thankfully tracked their phone which was wedged somewhere in my car. It turns out Uber gave them my address. After a heated conversation with Uber, they refused to acknowledge the number of laws they had broken and the dangers they had caused me and many other drivers. I think this needs to be highlighted and get put into media outlets and spread.”
Which had this response:
“I understand your concern regarding deactivation of the drivers at once without any rights in terms of having the driver’s side heard etc, but a critical data breach, such as giving a drivers detail out to passengers, should have or should be taken further now as it’s really serious. All it takes is a drunk or drugged up disgruntled passenger to cause serious damage to lives or the property of driver.”
