Following the launch of its thrice-weekly service between Toronto and Dubai, AIR CANADA has stated that it will oppose any moves by the Canadian government to free up more flight slots for Gulf carriers. AIR INDIA has launched direct flights between Delhi and San Francisco, making it the first airline to offer direct connections from India to the west coast of the US. AMERICAN AIRLINES will become the first of the “Big Three” US carriers to operate a dedicated flight (rather than a codeshare) between North America and New Zealand when it begins a daily, nonstop service between Los Angeles and Auckland from June 2016. CHINA EASTERN AIRLINES will launch a new service connecting its base in Shanghai Pudong to Prague from April 2, 2016. The new route will be the carrier’s first service to Eastern Europe.


EMIRATES has added four weekly flights to Jeddah, meaning that it now serves the Saudi Arabian city three times daily with its flagship Airbus A380 superjumbo. ETIHAD AIRWAYS has launched its first A380 service to the US. The superjumbo is now serving one of the airline’s two daily flights between its base in Abu Dhabi and New York JFK. GARUDA INDONESIA has expanded its network in China by launching a direct service between Denpasar and Guangzhou. The Indonesian flag carrier now operates the route every Tuesday, Friday and Sunday. JETSTAR ASIA has launched its inaugural flight between its base in Singapore and Danang, Vietnam, making it the first low- cost carrier to connect the two destinations. KLM has taken delivery of its first B787-9 Dreamliner, which it will use to operate the Amsterdam-Abu Dhabi-Bahrain route.


Malaysia-based MALINDO AIR has launched a new service linking Kuala Lumpur with Sri Lanka’s capital city, Colombo. The daily flight is operated by a two-class B737-800, with 12 seats in business and 150 in economy. QATAR AIRWAYS is now offering nonstop flights between its base in Doha and Nagpur, India. The daily service means that the Oneworld member now operates a total of 102 weekly flights to cities in India. SINGAPORE AIRLINES will add Dusseldorf to its route network on July 21, 2016, with the destination becoming the carrier’s third German city served. Flights will be operated by the A350-900. Taiwanese low-cost carrier V AIR, the franchise subsidiary of Trans Asia Airways, has expanded its presence in Japan with the launch of three new services to Nagoya, Osaka and Fukuoka.
