THERE’S AN EVER-INCREASING DEMAND FOR SPACE. RECENT REFURBISHMENTS AND EXTENSIONS HAVE BEEN UNDERTAKEN BY SEVERAL HOTELS

by several hotels, including the five-star Intercontinental Malta, the four-star Dolmen Resort, the Hilton Malta and the Phoenicia Malta. It’s all thanks to an unprecedented €700 million

investment from the central government to boost the nation's infrastructure. Te influx of visitors has had an adverse effect on roads, particularly those into the cities, but that’s all about to change. Te Maltese Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects, Ian Borg, has said that the boost in funding will enable traffic to flow more smoothly on the country’s roads and attract further visitors and tourists.

INTERCONTINENTAL ARENA CONFERENCE CENTRE One of the largest venues on the island is the Intercontinental Arena Conference Centre – this event hall is located in St Julian’s (in the St George’s bay area) and boasts a conference space of 6,000 sqm, which can hold 1,700 delegates. malta.intercontinental.com

Beyond Valletta, Gozo is another cultural hub located

just 25 minutes away by ferry. Constantly developing to accommodate new businesses looking to make the most of the island’s laid back lifestyle, the central city, Rabat (also known as Victoria), is bustling. While to the east you will find Ggantija, home to some of the oldest free-standing megalithic temples in the world. Another popular spot for corporate travellers is the

coastal town of St Julian’s. A short drive north of Valletta, it boasts plenty of seafood restaurants and pretty cafés with fabulous coffee enjoyed by locals and visitors alike, as well as a picturesque port and seafront. A large number of the islands’ luxury hotels have the

capacity to host large-scale conferences or meetings – five luxury hotels across Valletta and St Julian’s boast more than 400 meeting spaces combined. For more intimate gatherings, there is, again, a vast

selection of options, most with excellent connectivity for global businesses. Whereas for the larger crowd you can dive straight in from informal suppers to gala dinners or awards ceremonies, there are plenty of options. But there’s an ever-increasing demand for space, too. Recent refurbishments and extensions have been undertaken

CORNUCOPIA HOTEL For a meeting by the pool, head to Gozo and the Cornucopia Hotel, which offers a meeting room that seats 30-plus outside space. With 48 bedrooms, there is plenty of room to make a base at the hotel and explore what the rest of the island has to offer. cornucopiahotel.com

MEDITERRANEAN CONFERENCE CENTRE The Mediterranean Conference Centre (MCC) in Valletta lies on the site of the Sacra Infermeria (hospital) of the Order of St John and is a member of the Historic Conference Centres of Europe. It regularly hosts EU and government functions, and is undergoing a €10 million project to renovate areas not currently accessible to the public. Due for completion in 2019, the real wow factor will come from the opening of a converted roof terrace seating up to 650 guests, with dazzling views of the Grand Harbour. mcc.com.mt

MALTA MARRIOTT HOTEL & SPA Next year will also see the arrival of Malta’s first Marriott hotel (previously Le Méridien) in St Julian’s Bay. The venue already has 16 event spaces, so it will be exciting to see what the refurbishment brings. marriott.com
