charming villages, glorious mountains, famous museums and more, all within easy reach. Although Cannes may
be small, with 70,000 inhabitants, it’s perfectly set up to welcome visitors – there are nearly 8,000 rooms in 130 hotels, with the ability to host 22,000 visitors. Welcoming three million visitors every year, the investment in Cannes is extensive and consistent. Over €500 million has been spent on the modernisation of some of the city’s most celebrated hotels in recent years, with the Hotel Martinez, Te Intercontinental Carlton, and Le Majestic just three examples of famous establishments that have been extensively revamped. Te Croisette is also undergoing a four-year
improvement programme, which includes redesigning the roads, revamping the beachside restaurants and bringing in 95,000 cubic metres of sand to make the beaches twice

as big. Te infrastructure in the wider Côte d’Azur region is also being improved. Nice airport, which serves the whole area, is expanding to cope with rising passenger numbers. Cannes has dealt well with its challenges. A spate
of terrorist incidents in France, including a truck attack in nearby Nice in 2016, has led to increased security, with conference organisers working closely with police to ensure visitors’ safety, and adding 120 retractable bollards to the Croisette for security purposes. Te city also works hard to diversify.
Tis year has welcomed two new events: Canneseries, a festival focused on TV series, and the Red Bull Air Race, which Régis Faure, the tourism director of the Palais des Festivals, describes as “Formula One in the sky”. “Cannes is a dynamic destination in which to

do business and to have international conventions because of the investment by private investors and the public sector, which shows confidence in the destination,” Faure says. “Apart from the beauty of the location and the short walking distances, there are always improvements, renovations and ambitions for the city, which help us stay at the top as a MICE destination.”
HOTEL MARTINEZ Aſter a €150 million refurbishment, Hotel Martinez reopened in May as part of Te Unbound Collection by Hyatt. “Hotel Martinez welcomes event participants all year round in 2,500 sqm of meeting rooms,” says general manager Alessandro Cresta.
“Te beach, the restaurants,
including the two Michelin-starred La Palme d’Or, and the terraces with views of
the Bay of Cannes can also serve as glamorous reception venues.”
