Portugal came 11th globally in terms of the number of meetings organised. Faro Airport’s new €32 million terminal symbolises the momentum that the nation has been experiencing for some time. Its airy, well thought-out public areas add 12,000 sqm of additional space, accommodating the 18.5 per cent year-on-year increase in passengers using Faro Airport logged in 2016. Now, the facility can serve up to 3,000 passengers per hour. Tis is about to become even more valuable following
the opening of the Algarve’s largest conference venue last summer. Located next to Vilamoura Marina, the impressive Algarve Congress Centre is designed to let its surroundings in, with ten-metre-high ceilings offering 270-degree waterfront views. Tere are 19 meeting spaces to choose from (totalling 7,600 sqm), and the largest can welcome 3,800 delegates at once. Te 2,300 sqm rooſtop space gives the option for coffee breaks, dinners or receptions that make the most of the ocean air and year-round sunlight. Te Algarve’s hospitality infrastructure has seen some
impressive new additions and refurbishments in recent years. Tese include the new clubhouse at Four Seasons Fairways, Quinta do Lago – an upscale golf destination that’s high on the list for corporate groups. Following a €2 million refurbishment, the clubhouse now has a glass-walled wine

cellar, an indoor-outdoor heated pool, a restaurant and cocktail lounge, and an entertainment area that combines a pool table with private work stations – with a design inspired by Azulejos traditional Portuguese tiling. And, last year, the five-star Anantara brand chose the Algarve for its European debut (see across). Last year, Portugal gained two new Michelin-starred restaurants – both of them based in the Algarve. Housed in Conrad Algarve in Almancil, Gusto by Heinz Beck fuses contemporary Mediterranean dishes with Scandi design and has a cigar menu, plus an outdoor terrace. And at Vista Restaurant at Bela Vista Hotel and Spa in Portimao, guests enjoy staggering views of Praia da Rocha while indulging in beautifully designed cuisine with national and Mediterranean influences. Both venues would be perfect for a wow-factor dinner to reward delegates. Any other reasons
to consider the Algarve for a meeting, incentive, conference or event? “Easy access, superb weather, quality accommodation with international brands investing more and more
