run throughout. She will join Hélène Russell in a panel discussion entitled Building a KM Community of Practice in the UK.

Day One’s second keynote will be delivered by Dr Navina Evans, Chief Workforce, Training and Education Officer for NHS England. She was previ- ously CEO of health Education England and continues her work under the newly organised NHS England remit. She will be looking at the training and role of health information professionals within the NHS.

Day two begins with a keynote from Masud Khokhar, Librarian and Keeper of the Brotherton Collection at University of Leeds, looking at Leader- ship and Resilience. Journalist and author Sathnam Sanghera will be closing the confer- ence with a keynote dubbed “A fireside chat.” Sathnam, author of Empireland: How Imperialism Has Shaped Modern Britain, has been a passionate and vocal supporter of public libraries and he will be sharing his experiences and love of libraries in an informal session with past CILIP President Kate Robinson.

Nurturing networks

New connections, knowledge sharing, and collaboration opportunities are built into the Conference, with a mix of formal and informal networking. The

programme includes several discussion and workshop-style events and the resi- dential approach to Conference, alongside social events mean there will be plenty of opportunity to build your network. CILIP reaches across sectors in the Information Profession, meaning that Conference is the perfect opportunity to widen your professional sphere and make connections that could last a lifetime. Networking not only opens doors to new ideas and ways of thinking but can also give you an understanding of how your career can progress – from leadership options to moving to a new field. There will be someone at conference who can share their experience and offer advice. Those new professional connections can also help with some of the challenges faced by the profession, offering a differ- ent perspective or a chance to work with organisations facing similar issues to your own.

The Conference Exhibition Hall will offer a chance to meet with suppliers and discover the latest products and services on offer. Delegates can develop relationships, get advice, and compare suppliers in one place. There will also be exclusive dis- counts available throughout Conference.

Knowledge Management Stream An extensive programme of accessible and insightful Knowledge Management focused sessions will be running through- out the conference, including the opening keynote from Rebecka Isaksson. Hélène Russell and Hank Malik have been work- ing on the programme for the KM stream and say it will offer a mix of insight and impact on practice, and how KM can offer solutions to some of the challenges currently faced by the profession. As well as Rebecka’s opening keynote, she will be chairing a discussion that looks at Building a KM community of practice in the UK. The panel discussion will bring together a number of KM Practitioners and look at the value of a KM community and the way to build on it.

Hélène Russell will be hosting a ses- sion on The role of KM practitioners in fostering psychologically safe working environments. This session will look at how KM practitioners can help to foster a culture of trust and psychological safe- ty within organisations, in such a way that all feel able to share insights and concerns, and therefore all benefit from transparency of learnings.

Masud Khokhar. April-May 2023

A session will be held on how we can plan to capture knowledge in the wake of the Great Resignation that followed Covid. The Great Resignation saw large numbers of workers leaving their jobs to seek alternative employment and that staff turnover created huge challenges for organisations in terms of the potential for ‘knowledge gaps’ within roles and

departments. This session will explore how KIM professionals and leaders at all levels can help to cultivate crucial continuity of knowledge during personnel transitions. Each of the KM Sessions will have a broader appeal beyond KM practitioners, with practical insight into how effective KM can strengthen organisations across the information professions.

A rich programme

CILIP Conference 2023 will deliver on the theme of leadership, offering delegates a rich and varied programme – from organ- isational resilience and digital leadership to leading inclusive services and building representative collections. The two-day programme has been created to inspire delegates and to deliver practical, positive change to build a sustainable future for the information professions. There will be a number of sessions aimed at career development, helping delegates to identify a pathway to new opportunities. CILIP staff will also be available throughout, helping delegates discover more about how membership and CILIP services can give your career a long-term boost.

We Are CILIP

This year’s conference will draw on the We Are CILIP Action Plan and is an opportunity to come together as an organ- isation for an in-person event. Conference will give delegates the chance to be part of a unique event that brings together the broad range of interests, professions, and sectors under the umbrella of CILIP. We Are CILIP is underpinned by four key pillars – Digital Transformation, Sustainability, Equity & Social Justice, and Leadership. With a broad theme of leadership, Conference will also touch on these areas of activity, how they impact on the profession and why leaders need to be thinking about them now. CILIP Conference 2023 takes place on 12 and 13 July at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole with a range of packages avail- able.
