A final goodbye to Ridgmount Street as CILIP moves to BL
CILIP has moved into a new home, bringing an end to more than 50 years at its Ridgmount Street headquarters. The move sees CILIP take up residence at the British Library and marks a shift in how CILIP operates, with plans for the move out- lined in the latest five-year strategy. Changes to the organisation and how it used its Ridgmount Street property, particularly in a time when many roles are hybrid, allowed CILIP to make the move to one of the UK’s most iconic library buildings. The new location is firmly in the heart of London’s Knowledge Quarter, and a post on CILIP’s website says: “We have moved into the British Library, the national library for the UK, and it’s a great fit for us as the chartered institute and leading voice for the informa- tion, knowledge management and library profession. “We also still have our teams based in the devolved nations of Scotland, Cymru Wales and Northern Ireland. “We now start a new chapter based in the Knowledge Quarter, within the British Library and a stone’s throw away from many major knowledge institutions such as The Wellcome Trust, The Francis Crick Institute, UCL, Google, UCLH and within walking distance of three main rail hubs.” The move will deliver a number of other organisational benefits, and ensure that CILIP can continue to work in a decentralised way, which was first adopted through the Covid pandemic lockdowns.
