Becoming a digital leader – skills and knowledge in one place

A NEW set of resources to help pub- lic library workers develop digital skills has been launched by CILIP, in partnership with Libraries Con- nected. Digital Leadership for Libraries features

five specially created open-access learning modules for CILIP members, as well as all public library worker, volunteers and apprentices. The Open Access modules provide training opportunities linked to CILIP’s Professional Knowledge and Skills Base (PKSB), and have been developed to digital leadership across the sector. Jo Cornish, CILIP’s Chief Development Officer, said: “Being a digital leader is about mind-set and being inspired by the ‘art of the possible’. These modules will allow us to connect the workforce with the right knowledge, tools and confidence to be dig- ital leaders. We are certain that this will equip them with the skills to empower their communities and enrich their ser- vices for today and the future.” The work has been funded by Arts Council England, and ensures all those working in public libraries can develop their understanding and learn new skills. The five modules are designed to be short and accessible, and to bring learning into working practices. They cover the following topics:

l Digital Leadership l Digital Creativity l Data Stewardship l Digital Impact l Digital Marketing

Development of the modules has also

seen input from the British Library and its LibraryOn project to develop a single digital presence for public libraries (see Informa-

tion Professional October- November pp. 30-32 https://bit.ly/3GIju8g). Head of Public Libraries and Community Engagement at the British Library, Liz White said: “We are delighted to see the launch of these new digital leadership modules, which will play a key role in supporting the implementa- tion of LibraryOn (formerly Single Digital Presence). Thanks and congratulations to everyone involved in their development.”

Financial support in times of crisis

NEW help for CILIP members struggling to cope with the cost-of-living crisis is now available through the CILIP Benevolent Fund. As prices rise, many families and indi- viduals are finding it harder to budget and having to make difficult choices about where they spend money. The fund, which is run independently of CILIP, is offering up to £3,000 to CILIP members for unexpected bills that they are strug- gling to pay. A letter outlining the changes and how members can apply for support is being sent out to all members.

December 2022

The funding is open to applications from anyone who has been a CILIP member for at least 12 months, and all applications are

treated confidentially. CILIP members can also access other services that could help them through a crisis. A free legal helpline is available on 01275 376 059, with more details at www.cilip.org.uk/AdviceLine. The CILIP Benevolent Fund has also part- nered with financial experts, Better with Money (https://betterwithmoney.com), to offer a range of financial advice and resources. Visit the CILIP Benevolent Fund at www. cilip.org.uk/benevolent to find out more about what is available, and apply for support by filling in an application form at www.cilip.org. uk/BenevolFundContact.
