Gerardine Blee of CILIP Ireland giving a talk at the launch of the Virtual Mentoring Network.

shared case studies on both our blog and on our social media platforms to evidence the valuable work local libraries are deliver- ing. You can follow our election activity using #CILIPIreElectionWatch.

Events

During the year we also launched two new campaign posters in support of libraries featuring well-known celebrities: broad- caster Angela Scanlon and local author, naturalist and conservationist Dara McAnulty.

CILIP Ireland was delighted to host a networking event for our Employer Partners. The event was held on Tuesday 26 July at The Spencer Hotel in Dublin to coincide with the IFLA WLIC and served

as a valuable opportunity to engage with members during an evening of network- ing, discussion and knowledge sharing. In 2022 CILIP Ireland was pleased to welcome National Museums Northern Ireland as a new Employer Partner. CILIP Ireland has 17 Employer Partners, and we look forward to engaging with even more employers during 2023.

In October we resumed our Twitter Live Chats for students and new professionals to consider the potential impacts of recession to libraries across all sectors. The Live Chat provided a platform for participants to share thoughts, strategies and experiences as this situation progresses.

World Congress

Summer 2022 will be long remembered for the phenomenal IFLA WLIC which came to Dublin in July. The WLIC was a huge success with around 2,000 delegates from almost 100 countries. More than 150 sessions, meetings and workshops took place including the UK caucus, hosted by CILIP Ireland, which was held on 26 July. The caucus provided a unique opportunity for delegates to network and share knowledge and we were honoured to have IFLA President Barbara Lison deliver the “Welcome Address”.

Manager Gerardine Blee participated in a panel discussion entitled “In- novation in Continuing Professional Development in Irish Libraries”. She also delivered a presentation on CILIP Ireland’s pilot Virtual Mentoring Net- work. This was an extremely valuable opportunity to raise the profile of CILIP Ireland’s activities. CILIP Ireland was also delighted to offer two bursaries for attendance at the WLIC IFLA 2022. The bursaries which included full attendance at the Congress along with three nights’ accommodation and a contribution towards travel costs were awarded to Elaine Toal, Moira Branch Library Manager and Dr Robert Whan, Director at Armagh Robinson library.

Awards

CILIP Ireland was proud to partner with the Belfast Book Festival to co-sponsor the Mairtín Crawford Awards for Poetry and Short Story. Well done to Amy Stewart, winner of the Mairtín Crawford Award for Short Story. Congratulations also to the joint winners of the Mairtín Crawford Award for Poetry prize – Jim McElroy and Kate Bevis. This is a pres- tigious local award, and we are hopeful that we can build on this success and grow our collaboration with the festival for future years.
