narrow Tamiya, 3M Fine Line or K-UTG Gold tapes to cover beyond what the thin tape covers. If I use it as the primary masking tape, I cut a new edge on the tape as this tape is a bit rougher on the edges.
For masking wider areas, I fi rst use the narrow Tamiya, 3M Fine Line or K-UTG Gold tapes and then use Pro-Mask Masker over the edge of the thinner
to block off the area. T e paper is doubled over on itself and is unfolded to cover twice the width—from 3-1/2 inches to 7 inches. (Figue 2)
My arsenal of tapes now includes the 3M Fine Line, Tamiya Masking Tape, K-UTG Gold, Auto Grafi x and the Pro-Masker tape/paper combo. All are compatible with solvent or water-based fi nishes.
T e nuts and bolts of using masking tapes will be covered in a future Tips & Techniques article.
