‘Consistency and quality’; raising the bar in US airport retail


As a leading North American concessionaire with $1.2bn in sales, Paradies Lagardère is influencing a major transformation of airports in the region, which have been described as ‘uninspiring’ in the past. Not any more, according to EVP, Gerry Savaria.

verall Paradies Lagardère enjoyed a ‘great year’ in 2019, according to the


company’s Executive Vice President Gerry Savaria. Winning new business and protecting contracts in airports such as JFK, Ottawa International Airport, Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, and T. F. Green Airport in Providence, RI were among the highlights. It is no surprise then that Savaria


says he is ‘excited’ for what 2020 holds. “We’ve opened a record


number of new stores and restaurants in several airports, for example in Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (BREWED),

Lagardère marked the one-year anniversary of its acquisition of Hojeij Branded Foods (HBF). “We’re the third-largest


concessionaire in North America with $1.2bn in sales and the most recognised operator in both retail and dining with the highest level of consistency and quality,” insists Savaria. “And as you’re probably aware,


Paradies Lagardère recently announced we’ve entered into a license agreement with Starbucks


to develop and operate standalone Starbucks stores in US airports.” This marks the first time the


juggernaut coffeehouse chain will be available from multiple licensees since the very first airport Starbucks opened in Seattle 29 years ago.


Orlando vision Speaking about new developments, Savaria was able to provide an update on the company’s new stores – yet to be built – at Orlando International Airport (MCO). As many readers will remember, Paradies was awarded the South Terminal Complex (STC) Retail 1 package at MCO back in 2018. “New terminals are always full

recently opened MCO’s first Vino Volo concept too. When asked which other


developments were most significant for Paradies Lagardère in 2019, Savaria says: “I think we’re most proud of the work done integrating
