LATAM REPORT: ASUTIL 2017 ‘BACK TO THE FUTURE’ ASUTIL returns to Rio for 21st conference


Although attendance was down -13.4% at last year’s conference in Chile (to almost 300 participants), ASUTIL says it was pleased with the numbers. As conditions in Brazil continue to improve the association expects attendance to rise again this year to close to 340.

his year’s conference, which marks 21 years of the association’s annual event,


will take place from June 6-9 in Rio de Janeiro, at the Hilton Barra Rio de Janeiro hotel. It was in 2001 when ASUTIL held


its first conference in the same venue. Today, this city, just as the industry, has gone through a lot of qualitative and quantitative changes, says the association. “It is no longer the same city,


there are not the same customers. Duty free is not the same and not only reserved to a few categories and brands with reduced space in airports. Today it is a global industry, more dynamic and appealing. “The conference’s title is [very


relevant]. If you could go back to the past, as in the movie, what would you like to change in order to reinforce our values and commitment with this industry in the future? “Moreover, now that we face
