A NOTE FROM ARGENTUM

PRESIDENT & CEO James Balda jbalda@argentum.org

Working to Provide the Best Resident Experience

“People will never forget how you make them feel.” That was the sentiment shared by a senior living resident who participated in a new resident focus group at the 2017 Argentum Senior Living Executive Conference held in May. Everything we accomplish together in senior living aims to improve the overall resident experience and provide the best “feel” for residents. At Argentum, we continue to connect with leaders across the industry to ensure we are working toward solutions that benefi t senior living residents.

We want to thank the more than 2,700 senior living professionals representing over 6,800 communities who joined us in Nashville for the 2017 Argentum Senior Living Executive Conference to share forward-thinking ideas and engage in meaningful discussions. Your commitment to how you make residents feel in your communities is what makes the diff erence every day. In this issue of Senior Living Executive, The Resident Issue, our focus is on the senior living resident and how we can be more informed to better understand their needs. You’ll read about how senior living communities can improve overall care and operations by looking to the science of aging. Research shows that our senses change as we age, and that knowledge can be used in community settings to provide better environments and service for senior living residents. You’ll also learn about how some communities are looking at the “prospective family” in addition to the prospective resident when it comes to sales and marketing. Including a future resident’s family members, especially adult children, in the sales process is critical to the success of the transition before, during, and after they become a resident. Additionally, you’ll see a recap of the 2017 Argentum Senior Living Executive Conference including highlights of several award recipients who are leading examples of dedication and excellence in senior living. Whether it’s learning how to more eff ectively communicate with a memory care resident or where to fi nd elder abuse resources, in this issue you’ll fi nd articles designed to help you provide improved care and service for residents in your community. Be sure not to miss “The Heart of Senior Living” spotlight—you’ll gain insight from actress Kimberly Williams-Paisley on her family’s personal journey and what she wishes she had known about her mother’s early on-set dementia diagnosis and disease progression.
