ARGENTUM SENIOR LIVING EXECUTIVE CONFERENCE GENERAL SESSION KEYNOTE SPEAKERS
GEORGE BLANKENSHIP, a former executive at Tesla, Apple, and GAP, spoke about the importance of forward-thinking innovation and cultivating brand loyalty among customers of any industry. In reference to his successful business model at Apple, he said, “What we let people know is, they are important. They will be taken care of. And we are available to help them.”

DERRECK KAYONGO, founder of the Global Soap Project, shared his story of observation and entrepreneurship with conference attendees. The initiative launched from the realization that while millions of bars of soap were being discarded in the United States every year, people in Africa were ill and dying because they have limited access to soap. He encouraged and challenged professionals in the senior living industry to look for opportunities to innovate and to look for the next “big thing”.

CHANGEMAKER AWARDS
Argentumpresented 2017 Changemaker Awards to Ed Kenny, Life Care Services (LCS) chairman and chief executive officer, and Sylvia Mackey, an advocate and champion for Alzheimer’s research and funding support.
SYLVIA MACKEY’s husband, John Mackey, a former tight-end for the Baltimore Colts, was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) in the early 2000s. In 2006, Sylvia requested help from the NFL in what became known as the “88 Plan,” a reference to her husband’s jersey number with the Colts. The plan provided funding for former NFL players receiving care due to brain injuries in long-term care communities or at home. John Mackey passed away in 2011, but Sylvia’s fight for advancing awareness and research for brain injuries and disease continues. Brad Hopkins, former Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans left tackle, joined Argentum in presenting the award to Sylvia.
ED KENNY showed the power of his leadership while addressing proposed legislation that would have had widespread unintended consequences for seniors in Florida. His efforts significantly supported the effort in moving toward a better resolution to benefit residents and senior living providers alike in the state.
