He was also dedicated to advancing research and innovation in the industry, leading an effort to collect case studies and financial data from senior living com- munities long before the importance was recognized. In 2006, Sheriff became the co-chief executive of- ficer of Brookdale during the company’s merger with ARC. After 28 years in senior housing, he retired from Brookdale as chief executive officer in 2012.
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE (EDLI)
At the conference, 100 executive directors gathered for three days of training and professional development at the Executive Director Leadership Institute led by Tana Gall, chief executive officer, Blue Harbor Senior Living and Chris Guay, chief executive officer, Vitality Senior Living. Featured speakers included Jim Knight, former senior director of training & development at Hard Rock International and author of Culture That Rocks!; Cheryl McKenzie, an expert in operational efficiency; and a panel of top industry leaders. During EDLI, sessions focused on operations management, leadership, workforce development, sales and marketing, clinical oversight, and risk management.
