CONTROLLING YOUR STRESS WITH “BART”


You must restore and control your human reaction to a stressor in order to be an effective contributor to an emergency situation. This control will come from training and self-awareness.


If you cannot gain this control you are a risk to yourself and others at the worst of times. This inability to regain control is in direct conflict with a crewmembers emergency response.

At onset of an extreme stressor, your first response is to gasp, suck in air, and hold your breath. So, the logical first step in regaining control is to…Breathe. With your breathing normalized psychological and physical attitudes must be brought


under control. A confident posture will help you to begin to think straight and circumvent any possible unsafe or hazardous…Attitude.


With the process of breathing and attitude adjustment restored the restoration of memory recovery is achieved by Relaxing he muscle tension held in your body.


Once you have controlled your Breathing, Attitude and relaxed your body now you can rely on your Aircare FACTS Training coupled with good judgment.


BART is a major component of the Aircare FACTS recommended technique for attitude modification AND virtually all crew duties.
