Learning by Questions
Learning by Questions (funded by the Bowland Charitable Trust) is an online resource app with constructive learner feedback. Teacher authors have created thousands of Question Sets aligned to the curriculum objectives for maths, English and science at KS2-3. In researching, writing, designing and testing the questions, consideration has been given to answers and possible misconceptions. LbQ ensures every pupil is learning at the right pace and level of ability; every time learners answer a question, immediate feedback is given to build confidence and resilience. The better they do, the faster they are moved on to more challenging questions. Real-time performance data is sent to the teacher for ease of planning and identifying gaps in knowledge.

‘The most liberating aspect of using Learning by Questions to support teaching and learning across a school is that it is an online tool; tasks and assessments can be set for children to complete before, during and after any teaching sequence across subjects, to be accessed at home and in school. This allows our children to develop independence and the necessary skills of self-regulation in their learning, and this has certainly been invaluable during the past few months of home schooling and remote learning. Our children absolutely love using LbQ. They thrive on the support and challenge it provides, and they enjoy the level of independence it gives them for learning at both home and in school. Children can see how well they are progressing and where they are successful, but also what aspects of learning they need to work on. Our children have never been more engaged and involved in the drive to improve their own learning.’ Victoria Morris, headteacher, Elm Park Primary, Hornchurch

‘I have been using Conquer Computing for three years and have found it to be a very useful resource. The schemes cover the national curriculum topics and are presented in an easy-to-understand format, meaning they can be delivered by all staff. Links to necessary resources are included and have clear explanations. The content of the schemes and lesson plans are easy to differentiate and so can be pitched to a range of abilities. The accompanying videos offer valuable support to both staff and pupils. In addition, the schemes of work and lesson plans are regularly updated so they remain relevant in the fast-changing world of computing. Conquer Computing has saved me many hours of preparation over the years I have subscribed to it. I haven’t needed a great deal of support from the Conquer Computing Team, but when I have requested support, the team have proven themselves to be knowledgeable and have responded quickly to resolve any problems. I can highly recommend them.’ Roy Grimes, headteacher, Compton Dundon School, Somerton, Somerset
