Savings development manager Marsden Building Society
Burnley College is celebrating after it was named National Cyber School of the Year 2025 at a ceremony in London. Judges were impressed as learners from the college are taking steps to shape the future of technology, from developing software to train the next generation of cyber experts, to building revision tools that make learning more accessible.
My sector and specialities:
I’ve worked in the financial services sector and with the Marsden for 16 years.
As a building society, we’re part of the mutual sector which means that although we provide many of the services that banks offer, we operate slightly differently. We’re owned by and run on behalf of our members, which means we don’t have shareholders to pay dividends to. It means that, although we need to make a profit, as any business does, we reinvest it into our products and services, as well as into our communities.
Crow Wood Hotel and Spa Resort in Burnley has been awarded the EcoSmart Silver Accreditation by Greengage, a respected benchmark for environmental sustainability in the hospitality industry. This recognition is a testament to the resort’s ongoing commitment to reducing its environmental footprint and adopting sustainable practices across its operations.
Bowker MINI has supplied four new electric MINIs to estate agency Stones Young as part of a renewed partnership promoting sustainable travel for local property viewings. Stones Young Sales and Lettings, based on Whalley New Road, Blackburn, and Moor Lane, Clitheroe, was established in 2004 and provides both property sales and lettings services across Lancashire.
Having worked in a branch environment, most recently as a branch manager at our Nelson branch, customer service is my speciality. I understand the needs of our members, and my new role means applying that understanding to the business community, helping to promote our proposition and support businesses with our product offering.
My biggest achievement so far:
I’ve enjoyed a varied career at the Marsden, so I would say my biggest achievement is the career I’ve built. From being a customer representative to branch manager, and recently being appointed as savings development manager, I’m now tasked with growing our B2B division and building new partnerships with local organisations.
My ambitions for the future:
I’m excited to play a key role in expanding the society’s reach through business partnerships. By onboarding new organisations and promoting the benefits of Workplace Savings, we’re not only helping companies support their workforce but also encouraging individuals to build better financial habits. This aligns perfectly with the society’s values of supporting people within our communities.
Who I’m looking to do business with:
Small to medium-sized enterprises seeking a secure place for their savings or any business with more than 50 employees considering implementing a Workplace Savings scheme for their employees.
How LBV Helps:
As an LBV Hub member, we’re eager to connect with Lancashire organisations to develop partnerships that not only benefit them as members, but also the wider community. As a mutual organisation without shareholders, our profits are reinvested back into the business, the community and our products. Building connections with like-minded businesses will support our overarching goal of building something better for Lancashire.
